I live in Fayetville NC and would like to get into competion shooting. I think I am most interested in the IDPA but just any sort of competion would be nice for the fun and the training experince. If any of you are from NC point me in the right direction. Thankyou

IDPA is definitely in play and you may want to consider PPC with the North Carolina Police Combat Pistol League. They're a great bunch and more than ready to help newcomers. If you want to join, I'll sponsor you. First match is free.

Check out Range One off Hwy 210 near Lillington and PDHSC in Raleigh off Tryon Road. My brother has placed in the top five in the state championships in Boone for the last two years running so I hear lots about the ranges. When I talk to him tomorrow I'll get more places. I know of places in Sanford, Clinton, Wilmington, and Creedmor but don't know the range names.

The first one shoots in Jacksonville NC, Dan Bone runs the club. I'm sure if you e-mail him or Henry who runs the second one they could point you to local IDPA. That said, you need to get out and try USPSA at their places. I haven't shot their clubs yet... due to 5 hour drive, but I've shot with both of them and am sure they put on an excellent match. Having so many Marines nearby they are used to new shooters trying out the sport. Sir Walter was the Creedmoor club Lee couldn't think of, I shoot USPSA there extensively. They also run Cowboy, Bullseye, Highpower, and the best junior program I've ever seen. Farther, worth the drive.

The Range up in Oxford for IDPA and 3 gun. A more relaxed place is shooting PPC- we have a civilian class that needs some shooters. Come on along.

Has anyone ever tried to setup a HighRoad N.C. shoot? Seems like we might have enough people to give it a shot.

I tried many many moons ago to set one up and it essentially fell through. That effort was however, ow I hooked up with Fed168.

I'm always game. The problem I believe was that everyone is pretty well scattered and finding a central range that didn't charge an arm and a leg was difficult. Definitely worth another try though!

If you're interested in looking to the west, there's an IDPA club in Wilkesboro. They also shoot long-gun side matches and occasional three-gun.

Yea Foothills IDPA in Wilkesboro is one, Watauga Gun Club in Boone runs a good match too. I shoot at those regularly. While I love those two clubs, which have good SOs etc and a nice atmosphere, "The Range" at Oxford is the best IDPA action in NC. Great facilities, props, etc. They use busses, cars, etc in every match. Nice challenging stages.

There is a nice range right beside ya up near Lillington. It doesnt shoot an IDPA match but it is darn close.

Hope this helps :)

Binkus,

I shoot at two of the ranges mentioned. The one I like the best is The Range in Oxford, NC. The Range has IDPA competitions the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Sundays of every month. At Personal Defense and HAndgun Safety they also have IDPA matches. PDHS also has very good classes for the beginner and advance shooters.

I used to shoot IDPA regularly at the following (many already mentioned):

Pitt County Wildlife Club http://www.pittcountywildlifeclub.20fr.com/index.html
Don't think they're still officially IDPA, but I believe they are still running IDPA-style matches. E-mail me off-list at super-gas@comcast.net, I can give you phone numbers of the organizers.

Range 1 - Bunn Level (Pete Peterson)- right near Fayetteville
Couldn't find a web link, but the phone number is 910-893-9887
Lots of fun, especially the shoot house.

The Range - Oxford http://users.gloryroad.net/~idpa/
Frank Glover's place. No bathrooms yet last time I was there (he's had the foundation poured for ages), but lots of fun. Creative stages involving running cars, fog machines, and other strangeness.

PDHSC - Garner http://www.pdhsc.com/
Indoor range with IDPA-style matches. Limited space, but they managed to put some challenging matches together.

Count yourself lucky, there are many choices in your area. I moved back to Oregon, and can't find an IDPA match anywhere.

Regards,
Michael Pliska

I posted a link above to the one near Fayetteville.

Michael,

Frank has done a lot to The Range if ya havent been there since the building went up. New shoot house, more props, more berms, more new steel, more gravel. Ya should go visit him sometime.
