I have a desk that I use in a spare bedroom that has my reloading stuff on but do to a new baby on her way I need to empty the room. I have a spot in the back laundry room that is 4 foot wide and a little wall that sticks out 2 feet. I have been looking thru the reload bench pics and have not seen anything showing what I am really thinking. I have a idea of using or making a 2' wide 4' long and like 6' tall cabinet. I want to beable to open the two front doors and have the first shelf be high enough I can set my knees under and that will be the main bench with the lee 4 turret reloader. Then have shelves that go the rest of the way up to keep all the misc stuff on. Then when done reloading I can close the doors back up and put a pin accross the top to keep the kids out of it. Anybody have any extra ideas or some pics of some more ideas what I am looking for. Thanks In advance.

Sounds like it'll have to be pretty custom. Or have your goods secured/stowed/locked as to raw materials, in process, finished, etc. Sounds like it's either that or some sort of door(s) of some sort.

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and find to two cheap pre-made lower base kitchen cabinets. They will come in standard sizes like 24", 30", and 36". You will have a choice of doors and shelves or drawers or a combination. Two 24" cabinets would fit nicely. Then get a 4x4 sheet of plywood and cross cut into to 2x4 pieces for a top. Screw the two top pieces together for strength. Screw the base cabinets to the wall and install the top. You will have a sturdy "custom" bench. You can add a upper wall cabinet later.

Cheap 24" base cabinets should be about $100 each. These are unfinished and can be painted or stained and varnished. They can look surprisingly good.

I made mine from a 2' x 4' piece of the white surfaced particle board available at either Lowes or Home Depot with a 2 x 4 frame and legs. I bolted the press and powder dispenser through the top and I use a C-clamp for temporary mounting of the case trimmer. I got my cabinets from garage sales and a Habitat for Humanity store. As long as you aren't particular about everything being matched you can find them at a very reasonable cost.

Screw the two top pieces together for strength.Glue them together. It provides a much stronger join and doesn't create stress points like screws do. Screw them together to hold them until the glue sets, but you want the glue holding them together. Titebond wood glue will create a joint stronger than the wood it is joining.

Excellent way to make a bench but be sure to get the "real" wood cabinets (usually oak) and not particle board. Particle board, MDF etc should be illegal.

The key to any bench is to have it firmly attached to the wall and well reinforced so nothing flexes. It makes evrything work so much nicer, plus it will stop some of the squeaks and noises that may wake up the little one at 2am(your only free time for a while),or the misses.

try this link to see a pic of my downsized bench (you can make the pic bigger by clicking it).....good starter bench with lots of storage for my lead ingots underneath, its made with heavy 4"x4" legs, and is real sturdy...I have done some reloading with it already for 30-30 and for 45/70.

+1 on the Congrats on the new addition.

I'm not sure about the cabinet idea.
That sounds too low to the floor to me.
But maybe I'm just not properly visualizing the idea.

Any way, I use a cheap desk strengthened by 2x6s.
This is too low to stand at, you'd either have to sit, or add boards to raise it up.
I'm lazy, I like to sit. :)
