Kel Tec P3 AT

Love it or hate it I had just picked up a P3AT. I was wondering about how many rounds need to be fired before it is broken in? What is the best round to carry?
What is the maxim effective range? Ect... I have shot about 70 rounds so far and like it. No probs or fails. With some practice I have obtained lethal accuracy at the most probable range. 0-15 ft, Robbery is a very slight work hazard. So far it fits the job, and I see no need atm to carry bigger.

I have had mine for a little over 3 years. Never had any problems with various ammo. Granted I only put through 200 or so rounds. It is not a range gun and I did buy it at just about the peak of the .380 craze. I have always had CorBon 90Gr jhp in it.

I guess mine about 4 years old . Its never had bit of trouble I brought home removed from box oiled the slide rails and went to shooting No cleaning or fluff and buff.
I never understood the breaking in. I think gun is breaking owner in . Not the other way. If I buy a pistol. It should work right from box . Do you relize how many people buy a pistol and ammo go home load it and put in drawer for self defense . Work in a gunshop and you be suprised at the number . They never shoot them or just to get their cc lic.

Remember we are different we shoot more than adverage person . I have to drag my brother out side to shoot . I have my own little range . Yet he has his carry permit . If I didn't make him shoot now and then. He never would. I had a friend carried every where. Traded guns every couple weeks . He never shot them . One day we were out side I asked to see his new S&W snub . He handed over. I turned and emptied it. I thought he was going to cry . I shot his pistol . Now he would loose momey on trade .

I have 5 KelTecs none required a breaking in as far as Iam concerned . They all worked right from day 1 and most have over 500 rounds thru them my PF-9 is about 300 I bought it in fall .

In a .380, I'd opt to carry 90gr FMJ. I just sold an identical pistol to a co-worker. I put about 1 box of hardball through it and seldom carried it as a backup, refused to carry it as a primary. However, your situation is likely different from mine and the Kel-Tec will hiopefully serve your needs well and never be used other than at the range. We all keep our fingers crossed for that one.

you can usually tell after the first couple of mags, if your are going to have a problem child....i love my 1gen goes in a nemisis, in the front pocket...after a while, you find your self, doing that 'pat', to see if you forgot to put it in your just can't beat it, unless you opt for the smaller hole with the p32....gary

P3's don't require a "break in", but IMO, a 200 round failure-free litmus test is minimum for any autoloader before carrying.

I carry my gen I P3 quite often when I don't feel like dressing to accomodate anything more. Fit's easily and discreetly in my back pocket.

Thank you all it is appreciated. Very solid advice. I just hope I don't get robbed over pizza.

Mine required a break-in period. Jammed every few rounds for the first 70 or so, then once every couple mags, now after about 300 rounds it appears reliable. Glad I didn't need it before then! I still like it though, if it proves itself now we are g2g.

Glad you like it, I've liked all the Kel-Tecs I've had (which can't be said of their predecessor, Grendel.)

Just remember: Your life is worth defending. Pizza money isn't.

I don't carry a P3AT to be a hero, My friends with full size pieces and badges can do that; they also get paid better. If all the advisory wants is the food and money they can have it. I have their address and phone number. It was the attempted group betting of a close friend and co worker, that I don't like the idea of.

2Bucks, I run pies, too, one night each week. I've done it off and on for over two decades. Check out the sticky at the top of for robbery safety talk (the rest of that board used to be okay, but has suffered considerably as of late.)
Incidentally, I carry the PF-9 by Kel-Tec. Another gun is in my truck at the ready.

I have two. My first one I got about 4 years ago. Never a problem. The second one I got about a year ago. Again, no problem. Like them both.
