I am needing the expertise of THR's very knowledgeable members! What is a reasonable price for a used (very good/excellent condition) Bushmaster XM15A3? 20 inch barrel, fixed A2 style stock, detachable carry handle... This would be a private sale.

Thank you very much!!

Do you know how old it is, and how many rounds have been put through it? On Buds Gunshop they sell new for $950. In 2008 I bought a bran new DPMS of the same style for $775. So for the rifle you described I personally would not pay more than $700 and I would try very, very hard to get it for $650.

Used gun prices tend to vary by region and Bushmaster quality control was spotty for a couple of years..... so this is a rough guess - $700 - $800 if an inspection of the rifle turns up no issues with the bolt carrier, bolt, or fire control components and the gun shoots well.

I would not buy a gun in a private sale unless I got to shoot it first. There is a reason it is being sold and that reason is often function related.

Friend of mine just purchased one very similar to that with half a dozen mags for 550 and I feel he overpaid.

I've bought three used ARs in the last three months, two for $600 each, the other for $475. - one Eagle Arms, one Saber Defense, one DPMS. All were in as new condition.

you would be doing good for around 700...if you get to 800 that would probably be the ceiling...over that just buy a new one..Bushmaster is a good brand..
alot of reviews say the receivers get loose pretty quick but they make rubber buffers to fix that pretty cheap

Bought a bushmaster Civilian Marksman edition all match grade for 775 ..had the 20 inch HBAR..sub .5 inch groups at 100 yards...we stole that gun found out it sells for up to 1400...got to love ppl who dont know

I paid $175 for the same rifle with about 900 rounds of green tip ammo several years ago at an pre-estate sale. The orthodontist's young widow had 200 on the ammo cans and I offered $150. She countered with 175 "if you take this rifle too". Somehow beat up stainless winchester 1300's were worth $2500 apiece though.

That being said, bushmasters tend to be fixer uppers and rifle length weapons with fixed stocks don't move as quickly as hollywood style M-4 look-a-likes. I would offer $450 and go no higher than $600.

I wouldn't spend over $650 if it is in good shape. To many new rifles out in the $700 range. If it has several thousand rounds down it less.
