Had an odd malfunction that my gunsmith didn't fix for a month, because he couldn't figure it out. He solved it my sending my Bersa .380 Thunder elsewhere. I'm interested in what went wrong.

The pistol became double action only. Pulling the trigger would cock and fire it in the usual double action way, but no single action was possible. The hammer could not be locked back. Racking the slide, firing the pistol or pulling the hammer back by thumb would not latch it back.

My gunsmith never did find out what went wrong. Can you figure this out?

Presumably, the interchange between your gunsmith and wherever he sent it off to should solve this mystery. Ask him.

Something in the linkage of the hammer is what I'd guess. I'm no expert on pistols but looking at my Astra A-90, a DA/SA pistol, there's a piece that holds the hammer locked back for SA that it rests on and is sorta pushed out of the way when the trigger is pulled. Spring went missing maybe?

check the mag release safety. its an easy mod to remove. just take off the hand gaurds and remove a thin metal linkage.

TxSteve, you sure that is what's causing the hammer to not lock back?

If you are the first registered owner, Bersa pistols have Lifetime warranties through the Company.

Welcome to THR anyhow! (or at least your first post since '08, Lurky McGee. :D)

If your gunsmith could not "figure it out" with the pistol on his work bench then he is no gunsmith.
