Bored around the house, Doing nothing, Me and my brother decided to go to the LGS we always frequent. I been on the fence of a .40 or a 9mm.

So, We get there and I start looking at reloading stuff and what not and decided to look at the used counter. Such few guns. Hmm...Is that a Beretta? No, It's a Stoeger I tell myself. Asking to see it, I was surprised to see how new it looked for being used.

I fondled it for about 20 min. No exaggeration. It felt good. It had the box and 2 magazines with it. Everything functioned on it. It was a 8000 F model. I decided to get online with my phone and do some reviews.

Naturally, I got mixed reviews and what not. The asking price is $300 for it. Talk to the owner of the LGS and after some funny and odd remarks we make at each other. We come to a conclusion.

$310 OTD. Put it on lay away. I thought I got a decent price for something that looked very good. At least a 90% to me. \

I like the 3-Dot sights and I love the fact it is a Hammer-Fired as well with a De-Cocker function. Alloy framed. What's not to like? Trigger was pretty exceptional if you ask me!

Whats your guys story with yours?

I have the 8040 which is the .40 caliber version.
The Stoeger is basically the beretta Cougar, the machinery was packed and sent to the manufacturing facility. They all get very good reviews so don't be surprised to get a lot of thumbs up reviews.

Not surprised but happy about it for sure. Also, Does yours have the revolving/rotating barrel? I noticed this one does when I racked the slide at the LGS.

All Cougars will have this; it's the equivelent of the Browning cam in the 1911 and those semis that descend from that design.
I think the current Beretta PX4 uses it as well.

The PX4 does use the rotary barrel, in fact from pics I've seen (never personally taken apart a PX4) it looks practically identical internally to the Cougar. I think they just took the same setup and slapped it into a poly frame.

The subcompact PX4s use a traditional tilt locking barrel IIRC.

My Cougar is/was an excellent gun, now it's my buddys main CCW piece.

I have the Stoeger Cougar 8000 F 9mm and the 8045 .45 ACP. Both excellent guns. I shoot the 8045 slightly more accurately than I do the 8000 but both have very good accuracy. You'll love it! ;)
