There's a lake there, O.C. Fisher. There's a WMA there in the APH system allows deer/hog by archery and there's ducks and geese. I'd have to scout, of course, just wondering if anyone knew if it's worth messing with. We're probably going to be moving before next hunting season and I may be without a place to hunt next season, don't know, depends on events. We're looking around Rocksprings and it's 2 hours south of San Angelo, the closest WMA. I'd like to pup a few mallard up there if nothing else. :D I'll be dragging my travel trailer up there a lot if we move, methinks.

Isn't Rocksprings closer to Amistad?

Rocksprings is 72 miles from Del Rio. About an hours drive. The Amistad WMA has about 5 units, all of them are good to hunt. I know people hunt ducks there. I never have. Deer hunting is archery only. The annual permit is $20 last time I checked. There is also Kerr WMA east of Rocksprings which is closer than the one in San Angelo. I hunted the WMA by San Angelo about 7 years ago. It was a muzzle loader/shotgun only hunt. We saw enough deer to make it a worth while trip.

Heck, I didn't know there was anything around Amistad/Del Rio. My APH book from Parks and Wildlife lists nothing in Val Verde or Terrell counties to the west. They must not be in the state APH system, maybe federal national wildlife refuge or something? I don't see Kerr, either. There's a "Mason Mountain WMA", but it's doves only.

Guess I could ask my cousin's boy. He and his wife are state archeologists out at Seminole Canyon and live around Comstock. He ought to know something, though he doesn't hunt, with guns. He gives seminars on how the natives survived and has this passion for atlatls. LOL My cousin says he's on the cover of Texas Highways (I think) in March.

Mmm, maybe that WMA around Amistad is a draw hunt only thing? I think we're crossing wires on that because the APH costs $48 a year.
