I recently shot a 1911 government with a gold bead front sight and would like to have one installed on my colt 1991 bone stock pistol.Front sight (http://www.midwayusa.com/product/583454/wilson-combat-snag-free-1911-heinie-front-sight-190-height-080-gold-bead?cm_vc=S016) this is the one I want My only question is what size height sight do I need and would my stock colt rear work with it? I'm sending my pistol in to a gunsmith soon so I can have some work done and would like to have some sights installed. Thank you for your time

I'd let you gunsmith figure it out. Tell him what sight you want and have him buy it. He probably can get it cheaper than you anyway.

The site you have linked is a dovetailed sight and since most (all I think) Colt 1991's have staked on front sights your slide will need to be cut to get this sight on.

The 10-8 Performance U-notch rear sights are very popular with the gold bead front sights.

The NM model should fit your Colt's dovetail, but if you're having your slide cut for the front dovetail is may not be a big deal to have the rear cut for the low mount version.

The front sight is sized to the rear sight usually. Dawson makes custom front sights so you can sight in your pistol perfectly. There is a math art to it, and I've needed to try two front sights once to get it "perfect" at 25 yards.

Get the rear sight first, and let your gunsmith install the proper front sight. All front sights are pretty much the same, the rear is the key component.

I would use the 10-8 brass bead sight so you can run a 10-8 plain rear sight.

Since the gold bead sights are .125" wide, I recommend a very wide notch rear. The 10-8 .156" wide rear or Heinie .156" Ledge race cut rear ar the best sights out there for this setup.

Severns Custom has great attention to detail if you plan on shipping your pistol out for installation. But I'd wait and get it refinished at the same time.
