I saw on another forum that Remington uses MIM extractors in their civi shotguns but use forged in their police models.

~ Is this true?

~ How do I tell the difference?

I've heard it both ways, and regard it as a non issue. ANY 870 is as reliable as a crowbar and as durable.

IMO, some of this was started by the "Mine is better than yours" crowd.

I would have guessed that any savings would be eaten up by the added costs of making two different parts and keeping them straight in production, but I never ran a firearms factory so I could be wrong...

Don't sweat it. I have a cheapo express civie that dad got me four years ago for christmas. I take care of it but it is abused for 60 days in duck season and has been great except for this year when I hunted almost two months and did not clean the trigger group out after four years of use.

It is still a very solid design and reliable.

It is true. Well, the Police models use Bar Stock extractors, not forged. The rest of the line uses MIM extractors.

I don't mean to start a battle and I have never had one break on me. I also believe like dave said it is probally a yours is better than mine thing but, if it doesn't make a difference and either is just as good, why does remington go through stocking 2 seperate parts and using them. IF the mim, is just as good I would think it would be in the police guns as certainly the bar stock is more expensive. Mind you I don't have any police models but question the logic behind this (especially since the sportsman I know probally shoot more theirs more than the police use theirs).
