Just one 1911?
ACP

Wondering if anyone out there owns just ONE 1911-style pistol.
If so, what make and model is it, how do you have it set up, and why? And why haven't you bought another?
My sense is that folks who own one 1911 go out and buy others, like Glocks or S&W revolvers.

I recently sold off my Colt '91a1 project gun. I seemed to enjoy the porject more than the gun. Right now, I only have a Mil Spec Springy. I'm just waiting for the right deal I guess before I buy another.

I only own one 1911 right now, a Kimber Custom. The only mod I've made to it is to replace the original factory rubber grips with a wooden set as sold with the Eclipse model...those grayish-green laminated grips look pretty good against the pistol's flat-black finish!
I definitely want at least one more 1911...preferably two more or even three...probably another Kimber in either 4- or 5-inch trim and/or a Springfield, probably their Mil-Spec model. I'd even consider a new Charles Daly as a possibility!
I'm a revolver fan, too, having owned a number of good K-Frame S&W .357s over the years...wouldn't mind at all getting a hold of a good Model 19 again. Plus, I'd be interested in something like a Glock 19...seems like a great-sized pistol for both self-defense and fun-gunning.

I have a Springfield V16. This is my first and only 1911, but probably not my last. The V16 was just to pretty not to have... As it turns out, its a lot of fun to shoot, and an awesome example of the 1911 format. 1911 on steriods...
I think Ill end up getting a standard 5' something or other down the road.
Its a money game for me. I dont have enough to have one of each, so I need to choose wisely.

I currently have one now, my Colt Combat Elite. I'm working on the out of state transfer to get my Series 70 here. I had two Kimbers, a Classic Custom and a Pro Carry HD, both series 1's. I liked them well enough, but when I got the Combat Elite... well, the difference just changed my perspective on what a 1911 should be. The Kimbers just were missing something, to me. The feel, I guess.
By the way, the Pro Carry is still for sale... :D

Can't say that I own just one. They're just too addictive. Such quality, such heft, such value, such history... I need a moment. :uhoh:
The 1911s for handguns and Enfields for rifles are, for me, the most addictive guns in their class. I don't see how anyone can have just one.

I went and looked at your photo album link. Nice collection too!:what: All those 1911s make me drool. Sad part is I've had probably that many over the years just not all at once unfortunately.
I have a question about your custom '91A1. One, where did you find your GI parts? And two, what brand of mainspring housing is that?
Thanks!
BTW, I only have two Colts right now, the WWII repro and the Series '70 repro. I plan on gettin' the new 20s era commercial repro of the original 1911, not the A1, from Colt as soon as its available later this spring. I'm also lookin' hard at that new S&W 1911.

Being a 1911 addict I have way more 1911's than a guy needs. But if I had to narrow down to just one, depending on my mood, many days it's this one:
Colt Series 70 - new production/re-issue
http://www.legendportraits.com/Images/Guns/Colt2937.jpg
This has it all for me. Superb reliability with aggressive hollowpoints and everything else I stuff in there. Superb reliability with any of more than a half-dozen different brands of magazines & followers. Very accurate. And if looks could kill, the look of this gun would do it for me! :D
Of course, there are other moods where I might pick another of my 1911's, like my Kimber Stainless Series 1. No pic of it yet, but someday I'll make one. It's a great gun, but it ain't this Colt Series 70, which just has that special, intangible something. It must be the Kimber black double diamond grips... yep, that's it! ;)

I technically own one. I have bought and paid for it I just haven't received it. A Sistema Colt Modelo 1927, Argentina. It should get here any day and I'm bouncing off the walls till it does!
Hmmm...does a Colt Commander in 38 super count? It's very 1911'ish. It's really just a small version of the 1911.
I don't own more of them because 1911's tend to be more expensive than other guns. I think you would find that 1911 owners tend to be older, more seasoned, firearm enthusiasts who have a decent income.

Just one here. Colt 1991A1 basic blued mil spec looking 1911. That is what I wanted and my wife loved it so she bought it for me.
I am not a 1911 as a defensive weapon kind of guy. I like them for the nostagia, feel etc. but stick to my SIGs, and other double action firearms for defense. Just a preference by me due to what I operate the best insinctively. I am not bashing 1911s.
My Colt 1991A1 is spectacular. Never had a problem, extremely accurate, ooozes nostagia, great blueing, nice grips etc. I would have no problem using it as a defensive weapon, but that isnt it's roll currently. It is my 1911, everybody needs one, nostagic, today I am going to be McCarther fun gun.
No regrets. I do want to pick up an itty bitty 1911 either a Springfield or Kimber Ultra though because I am so impressed with this Colt.

I have a question about your custom '91A1. One, where did you find your GI parts? And two, what brand of mainspring housing is that?
I bought the slide stop off of a guy over on the 1911forum, the trigger was supplied, installed and tweaked by Ned Christiansen, and the MSH is a Smith & Alexander that was parkerized and fitted just a bit. The hammer isn't GI, it is a King's wide spur but is close to authentic. Very happy with how it turned out. It bites just a bit with my hold but it isn't a 'serious' gun and has never been carried. I'd love to get one made up just like it but charcoal blued - sort of an 'early' and a 'late'.
Actually, I must confess, I've sold off a couple of those - the 9mm SA, the blue SA, the blue Colt, and the Gold Cup. But a couple are missing from that pic. A basic Kimber, a Springfield MilSpec and my newest, a Colt 38 Super Combat Commander that's had some custom carry work done to it. It makes a nice big flash at night with hot loads. :D

I currently have only one 1911, a pre-enhanced model (but after the first set of improvements- all reliability improvements) Charles Daly. I love it and it's been a very good, reliable and accurate gun (several thousand rounds).
It is only my "only" 1911 because I've had some other firearm priorities but I plan on more. I might even get another Daly in the next month or so (it is one of several possibilities on my list). Either a full sized or a compact Daly are possibilities that have caught my eye (the newer "enhanced" models are definant improvements in looks, and feel). I also want a SA Loaded or Mil-spec in the next year and the one that I don't get will be coming in the next year.

I used to have two 1911's but sold my Springfield after I bought my Colt, because the Colt showed me how good a 1911 is supposed to be. That's the most accurate weapon I've ever handled and is head-and-shoulders above SA in looks, feel, build, and history.
Currently, my lady is with Ted Yost in AZ, for some repairs and renovation. She'll be back soon.
I am looking to add another 1911 to my collection just so I'll have something to fall back on when I want to modify the main carry gun. I need a stainless S80 for work, and am thinking to just have a full-house custom pistol made. Seems like it would be cheaper than buying a used weapon and having it upgraded.
Caspian frame and slide. Liebenburg slide stop. Barsto/Kart barrel. Novak/Yost sights. Brown grip safety. I'm open to suggestions/ideas.

I have a Springfield Custom Loaded. It has the green Armory Kote finish. I did two things to the pistol, replaced the grips with Pachmayer wood/rubber ones, and popped in a Novak adjustable target rear sight. I don't plan on buying another 1911 right now. This one does everything I need it to.

I had a Norinco 1911, sold it and bought a Colt Model 80 Government Enhanced. Then I bought a Kimber Classic which I also sold.
The Colt has been further enhanced to the tune of about $1200
It is my only 1911, but I have probably fired it more than any other gun I own. Well over 5000 rounds through this one.
This is one that will be inherited by someone in my family. It is just such a hefty piece of history and it shoots great.

One 1911: The Valtro 1998A1
One Holster: Tucker Gun Leather
http://www.imageseek.com/valtro/sven/_tucker_valtro_set.jpg High-res (http://www.imageseek.com/valtro/sven/tucker_valtro_set.jpg)
The happy family: Valtro with Tucker Gun Leather (http://www.tuckergunleather.com) holster, belts and dual angled mag pouch.
Gun has strong side Valtro safety and National Match (tight) bushing hand-fit by Mr. Jardine, who also added white dot enamel sights. $1300 (+ tax and license) out the door. Mr. Jardine delivers the highest level of customer service I've experienced in my life, in any industry.
Official Valtro Website (http://www.valtrousa.com)
http://www.imageseek.com/valtro/sven/_tucker_valtro_safety.jpg
Sven's Valtro Photos (http://www.imageseek.com/valtro/)
The Valtro fits my hand perfectly. 40 oz. of steel and a slide that feels like its on ball bearings. The workmanship is impeccable - the inside of the gun looks as good as the outside. The best part: the gun is amazingly accurate, eats all ammo types.
Lockup is completely tight and there is no 'play' in the slide/frame fit. This thing feels like the most well crafted machine I've ever owned.
Regarding the gun leather: it's from Tucker Gun Leather (http://www.tuckergunleather.com) via RobL ('tonerguy' here and formerly on TFL), who delivered my custom order within 6 days.
The leather is gorgeous. These pieces appear so sturdily constructed, I would not be surprised in my grandchild someday tries this leather and finds it servicable. The pictures above do not do the deep cherry black color justice, as would outdoor sunlight.
Valtro and Tucker. A winning combination.
