Well, I just got done working up my first 308 rounds with the new barrel. I have a LH R700 in an HS precision stock, and the $150 ER Shaw 26" 1:10 twist varmint contoured chrome moly 308 barrel. I have not heard much on these barrels, but for the price on Brownells, i couldnt resist. Anyhow, after break in and initial load up of r15 and 168 grain SMK HPBT i ended up with groups measuring .6 inches at 100. Since i plan to reach out to 1000, my primary load will be with heavier projectiles. I decided on the 178 grain hornady A-Max projectile. Today i did an initial ladder test work up at 200 yards, and started at 1.9 inches, then at 41.4 grains of R15 loaded to magazine length of 2.830 I had a group of .589! Fluke this may be, but im pretty darned happy for now. Im going to repeat this again using 4 shot groups vs the 3 shot groups i did today, and use a better rest. I used harris bipods today.

So if you are considering giving Shaw barrels a shot, go for it! Best 150 ive spent.

Nice shooting, I would not change rests :what: just keep doing what your doing cause that kind of group is impressive to say the very least

BP44... I should have clarified my rest set up today. I will continue to use the Harris pods, they have many miles on them, and are good to go. However, I did not have a bag for the rear of the rifle, and instead used a rolled up pair of cammie trousers. Crude, but effectivish. For load development purposes, I'd like to eliminate that from the equation. The 30 degree temps didn't do any good either!!!
