Just received the e-mail and invoice a couple days ago, I'm really looking forward to it being delivered. This will be my first ivory piece, I was surprised and proud to see that Charlie put my knife on his web page as the opening knife example.:D

Congrats, Charlie does amazing work, his FireAnt is one of the handiest knives I've got!

The FireAnt caught my eye. How is the grip on it? Do you get a solid hold?

Actually yeah, it's fine. For such a small knife, it handles well.

Cocobolo and D2 with southpaw neck rig.

I had a large Charles May that I sold, that I wish I had kept now that I've started deer hunting, it would have been a perfect field dressing knife!

Is your larger knife above a Holt Collier Special? I was thinking of getting it or a BigIsland Skinner next.

That's a real beauty, but, isn't there a legality problem with elephant ivory?

legality problem with elephant ivory

Not if you have the documentation that shows it was in the U.S. prior to the ban. Knifemakers are always on the lookout for antique ivory to put to use.

Ivory requires special care . . . you need to periodically rub it with clove oil to keep it from shrinking and cracking. At least, that's what I've heard.

Saakee,

I once saw a knife with Mastodon scales that were a deep blue marble pattern, I would really enjoy finding some Mastodon like such and have a knife done with it.
