working up a load for IDPA

I am thinking of joining an IDPA club and attend some events this year. I plan to use my Kimber 10mm. I am working up a load and wanted to get some opinions from expirienced IDPA shooters and loaders.

What .40cal bullets do use guys use that you see good consistancy from? What powders? Anyone here use a 10mm? if so, what loads worked good for you? Anyone use a Kimber 10mm? Same questions especially if you do.

I don't see much 10mm but in S&W 40 shooters in IPSC seem to have settled on 180 and 200 gr jacketed FP. Many of these guns are 1911 designs and loaded long. I've been using a 180 gr Star CEB (completely enclosed base) with good results. In the past I was satisfied with the 180 gr Zero.

Good a place as any. I'd lean towards a cast bullet over a jacketed just from the cost point of view. If you're going to be shooting more, the price of your ammo enters into it, big time. National Bullet Co. makes a good 180 grain TC cast bullet for $37.00 per 1,000 and a 200 grain TC for $39 for your .40S&W. Plus shipping.
For regular target shooting and that's what IDPA is, cast bullets, good ones, will allow you to shoot as much as you want without you losing your house.

Thanks, not really worried about price, I would rather pay alittle extra then spend alot of time scrubbing lead out of my bore. My 10mm seems to lead up faster than a .40. I guess it is the speed difference. I am working on a load using Ranier 180gr TMJs. I havn't shot them yet but I have a spread loaded up with PowerPistol I plan to take to the range tomarrow since I have the day off.

Try West Coast Bullet's 180 gr. plated - $67/1000 shipped - over 6.0 gr. Hodgden's Universal. Velocity approx. 1000fps, very clean. Power Pistol at 7.5 gr - approx same volume as the Universal - is a little spicier and a little more flash.
