hi everyone im new to the highroad but not new to guns i have just purchased a new centurion39 milled ak all american made my question is about the bolt carrier TAIL showing wear at 350rounds . i was wandering if this was normal . any info would be greatly appreciated. i have owned many ak,s but never looked at the tail of the bolt carriers before or just never noticed. the carrier is not hitting the back of the reciever . the wear and burrs are at the same angle as it contacts the hammer is this normal thanks

Could you describe the "wear" a bit more? Wearing on on the finish of the bolt carrier tail is normal. Superficial, nothing to worry about...

Wearing on the finish can be caused by the bolt carrier tail pushing the hammer back during recoil.

How does the rear block look - the part into which the butt stock is attached? If the rear block is taking a beating, there be another issue.

absolutely no marks or contact with the back of the reciever.
as for a more in depth description of the wear , the boltcarrier tail is forming burrs on each side of the end of the tail where the tail contacts the hammer to re cock it after it has been fired.
if you remove the dust cover and lower the hammer then cycle the bolt carrier untill the tail comes in contact with the hammer you can see that the wear is at the exact angle of the hammer at point of contact.
there was an article on the web with the same thing called(boltcarrier peening)
in the same place at the end of the tail. they said it was normal
im probably just being paranoid cast bolt carrier and century build
but i paid good money for the gun 800.
it runs like a champ and is very accurate for a ak tapco mags are junk in it but it runs great with commie steel mags
any imput would be greatly appreciated
i have been reading the high road for a while now you guys seem very knowledgeable thanks Don

also for the wear the tip of the bolt carrier tail is just slightly flattened at the point of contact with the hammer hence the burrs on each side
but this is verry minamal meaning that its not mangled or chewed up
thanks Don

It happens - not unusual, so long as the peening/battering/burrs are not extreme. Have the same on several of my AKs.

man thats good to know, like i said the gun runs like a top.
not much out there on the web about them other than youtube
i was suprised to find out about the cast boltcarrier but i guess its probably the only way centuryarms could get it made.
besides ruger mini14 is juat about all cast along with most all of there guns
thanks for the input

i had a polish milled 1960 ak before i got my centurion39 but foolishly traded it for a rem700 vtr in.308:banghead:
dont get me wrong my 308 is a tack driver to 230yds, but i should have just purchased it and kept my polish.
the centurion39 is its replacement

I'd say get a new recoil spring if you're worried about it. Other than that, not much you can or should do.

is there anybody out there who has had any exp with the centurion 39 sporter
i would love to hear from you, all i see on the web is,,,century build ,it wont be any good.
i did as much research as i could on it before i purchased it, the recievers are made by a company in friedley mn called about time machine you can go to the web page and see the recievers with the american flag on them
the barrels are non chromed green mountain, tapco furniture and g-2 trigger group, investment cast boltcarrier, gas block and front site
the new rear site is a god sent to the ak platform for adjusting windage
it shoots great and other than thetapco quad grips on the front stocks i love it.
i plan on changing the stocks out with timbersmith laminate stocks soon.
once i figure out how to post pics i will get some on here.
also as i said before my centurion did not like the tapco mags but runs great with metal surplus mags. i have about 550rds in it so far and i am happy with its performance.
alot of people on the web have been asking about this gun so if you have any questions i will be happy to try and answer them.
