I Want To SBR My AK....Who To Send It To?

I got a Polish 1960 just sitting around. I wanted to keep it with the all original AK look. But with the suppressor mount, that went out the window.

I'm not looking for super short. It has to stay as reliable as an AK. I would like to put a skelontized side folder on it (Ace?). Maybe a VFG. Maybe upgrade the sights and add the ability to add a Aimpoint Micro. I want to keep the suppressor. Think of it like a little "thumper" or PDW.

I am not as saavy on the AK platform as I am on the AR. I would like to keep this under $1000 (not counting red dot). Who does this kinda thing for AKs?

Is the Polish Milled 1960 a good platform for this project? I was thinking the extra weight of the milled receiver would help with the recoil.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks

You could buy a draco sbr for that price and keep your other ak stock.

An AMD-65 is an good choice for a SBR, I think, if you must have a wire side-folder.

After getting Uncle Sugar's approval you can remove the barrel extension leaving you with an already threaded, seriously abbreviated barrel.

There is an Ultimak mount for it as well.

I have no idea what you mean by "suppressor mount"

Don't want the wire side folder. I was thinking skeletonized like an Ace.

Who does sbr conversions?

I pulled off the slant brake and put a YHM suppressor mount for my 7.62 Phantom.

In the Houston area Tac-47 Industries displays some very nice SBR AKs at local gun shows.

www.tac47industries.com or (713) 264-1135, ask for Keith Nel. I believe most of theirs start out as Draco pistols.

i had one of thoes about a year and a half ago,the best ak i ever owned
reciever was milled by about time machining in friedley mn. i wish i never sold that gun.
i replaced it with a centurion 39 sporter milled american made ak because i could not get another polish 1960.
century makes a centurion39 milled ak pistol buy one of them and spare the polish milled 1960.....just my opinion:D

I would sell the milled to someone who wanted it and finance a Draco and paperwork and do it myself.

Kreb's Custom will turn it into a non-sbr with 14" barrel and pinned qd flash suppressor of your choice.

A quick note: cutting down ak barrels requires more than cutting and crowning; it also requires opening up the gas block.

This is what I'm working with. As far as muzzle device, I would like to be able to keep it suppressed. It has a YHM 14 LH Phantom mount.

I was thinking in the neighborhood of 10"-12" barrel. Ace(type) side folder. And maintaain AK reliability and durability. Maybe an Ultimak for an Aimpoint or Trijicon. I have noticed that when you run a fast string of fire, there is a brass pin in the bottomhand guard that gets hot enough to leave a blister. I would like to fix that.

You can probably have kreb's or sellers do what you want. It's a custom job and expensive (they have to pull the barrel and refinish the gun).

Krinkovs run a booster for proper cycling. You might run into cycling problems throwing a supressor on.

I'm not understanding this. Isn't the Krinkov piston operated like any AK? Since AKs are generally way over-gassed by AR standards I wouldn't think a suppressor would make much difference. I'll find out soon enough when my .308 Gemtech comes in, I've got a quick mount for my Draco-C SBR as well. I also plan to try it on my Mini Draco pistol while waiting for the SBR stamp for it.

The AK is a very noisy action so it may not be a very good suppressor platform beyond the "cool" factor and all that gas coming out behind the suppressor sure won't help.
