I'm making an attempt at putting a custom wood stock on my XL-7. One of the things I'd like to do is put a hinged floor plate in the magazine. The biggest issue I see is the latch. I (think) I need some sort of latch that isn't attached to the trigger guard.

Anyone know of a rifle that is set up like this that I might be able to order the parts online? The other possibility is going with a new trigger guard, but that brings it's own issues.

You could check the screw spacing and size to see if remmy 700 bottom metal might fit. Marlin and Remington operate under the same parent company so maybe the dimensions might be close enough? Another option would be to design one yourself and have a machine shop or a friend with a milling machine make it.

Given the time and money, most anything can be done. Considering that just buying the bottom metal for a Remington or Winchester will cost you over $200

and that is for pre-manufactured parts. It would be far more expensive in my opinion than it would be worth. Probably quite a bit more than the rifle is worth I'd say

Maybe, but the Marlin uses Winchester 70 scope bases. I'd doubt it. Remember, the XL-7 was designed by Marlin when they were a separate company.

Yeah, that would pretty much kill the idea. If I can't do something on a budget (and do it right), I don't bother.

Yea, but then it has to be modified to work on a Marlin, even if it is possible. Then the stock will have to be modified and refinished. No matter how you look at it this conversion will cost much more than the worth of the rifle. If it is even possible at all.

Some guys just like a challenge, and like to tinker. Nothing wrong with that as long as they understand that they will spend much more to accomplish their goal than the finished product will ever be worth.
