Want a handgun for quiet plinking & varmint control, for the sake of discussion all are full size pistols in 9mm.

My choices (because I have at least one of each) in no particular order are:

1911

Hi Power

Glock

I'd like to pick the collective mind of THR members for the differences of each platform and how they would affect suppressed operation.

I plan on installing taller sights and developing a load for whatever combo I wind up with.

Which would you choose and more importantly, why ?

As much as I hate plastic pistols, Glock is your best choice.

Threaded barrels are plentiful and affordable. They are simpler weapons that can be tuned easier for a suppressor if needed (ie recoil spring). Tall sights are available from a few manufacturers.

Hi Power is just a HP and nothing fancy about it. Barrels might be harder to find as possibly sights.

1911 has the best trigger. Threaded barrels are a bit easier to find over a HP as are sights.

IMO, I'd rank them for your needs in order of Glock, 1911, HP. Same suppressor with same ammunition but different host firearms will be very little difference, within 5dB if that's truly important. A suppressed 9mm with subsonic ammunition will be hearing safe.

I can't resist

Ruger Mark III.. cause how big a critter are you looking to control?

I would second the Ruger .22LR recommendation. It's the most practical and best bang for buck suppressed pistol application.

Otherwise the Glock is the best choice for a centerfire pistol.

Glock.

You have OEM threaded barrels. Suppressed weapons get filthy . You want a gun that has no problem with getting messy. I have an AAC ECO-9 that runs well on both my G34 and G26.

I shoot a Contender because all of the gas must go through the silencer.

Depends on what your doing but I have ruger m2's and 3's suppressed but a glock with the advantage arms .22 conversion is what I use more often than not. It's also a hit with kids and new shooters because it's the same as the "real gun" but is toy light with the aluminum slide.

With a checkmate can you can attach the suppressor in an instant but I did have to machine an adaptor using an extra long barrel because Cal gun laws
