Help Me Choose

I'm looking for a new autoloader. I'm considering the Ruger SR series or, the Beretta PX4. I haven't decided on caliber. I like how they both feel, giving a slight edge to Ruger. It also helps that its made in the USA. However, I also love Berettas. I have an M9 25th Anniversary Edition that I love. If I could I'd by both, but, that's not an option right now. As a side note, I do enjoy Glocks. However, I'm looking to try something different. It would be put in my carry rotation, and used for range fun. Which one would you choose and, why?

I'd had both and this would be a tough decision. The good thing is you really can't go wrong in your choices :D and I'm sure you're going to come out happy.
I did vote for the SR because you said the pistol was going in your "carry rotation" which I feel the Ruger is better suited for.

On another note.....If you decide to go with a .40, the PX might be the best choice. Its a little more gun and the rotating barrel really makes the PX comfortable and controllable to shoot.

The Beretta's are really nice looking IMO. Also, I've shot one and the rotating bbl does help reduce recoil and follow up shots are quick.

The ruger is thinner though I believe, so it may be more comfortable to carry.

I vote SR. It's slimmer, and it felt better in my hand than the px4. But, both are fine weapons, and would be a great carry piece.

As a side note, I do enjoy Glocks. However, I'm looking to try something different.

Same here. I inevitably sell everything I try and get the glock I wanted to begin with. I've become picky as I get older, or set in my ways...I find I'm just not satisfied if it isn't a 1911, a glock or a 22.

I owned the beretta oh so briefly. I don't have any negatives to say about it, but I won't buy another. The Ruger has caught my eye several times. It has an exceptional trigger.

I have held both, but never them. I felt like the sr felt more comfortable in my hand. It also seemed to be put together well. Make sure to get model numbers beginning with 331 and above, because they fixed all of the issues the sr9 had when it originally came out. (peening, trigger issues, mag release)

Never owned a Beretta, love the SR9 however.

I handled both and then bought the SR9c because slimmer and easier to conceal. The PX4 was too blocky for me. I have been really happy with my choice.

I voted sr9 because I really like my sr9c. Great trigger, great size, and great ergos.

Now if you're going for a .40 I'd look at the beretta or an M&P. Just my personal opinion.

I didnt vote because I think you need decide on caliber first. Atleast I would; if you want a .40 I would get the PX4 and SR if you decide on 9mm.. Thats just me but in either case both would make a fine addition to your collection. Good luck!

I have both the SR9 and 9mm full size PX4 Inox. Both are excellent guns, soft shooting, very accurate and very reliable. The SR9 has a slimmer grip and both have 17 round mags. The grip on the PX4 to me feels a little slick and I have put Hogue Handall slip-on grips on both guns. The rear sights on the SR9 are adjustable for elevation as well as windage. The three dot sights on the PX4 are bigger. The biggest difference is the SR9 is striker fired and has a thumb safety. The PX4 is hammer fired and has a slide mounted safety/decocker. The PX4 had a decent DA trigger pull and a very good SA pull. The newer version of the SR9 has an excellent trigger for a striker fired DAO gun. I've owned two SR9's, both shot high for me from the factory and I adjusted the sights down on the one I have now. I like both thus the reason for owning both. They're two of my favorite 9mm's. The SR9 or SR9c might be a little better for carry as overall it seems to be a little slimmer.

I chose Beretta because I have two and they are just downright reliable and accurate as all get out.

I'm not saying that the Ruger SRs are "similar to Glocks," but if you're looking for something different, the Beretta is more so than the Ruger.

I like both a ton! I personally think the Beretta Storm is the greatest LOOKING pistol on the market. That doesn't mean I'd buy one for that reason as I passed one up for something else when I bought a new one. But it's something to look at for sure!

Additionally, the Beretta fits my hand a little better. Specifically their "compact" (mid-sized) model. Their slide release is easily acceptable by my shooting hand's thumb which is something I like.

Egos Beretta works for me. I am also partial to a hammer fired DA/SA pistol.

I have both and like the Beretta much better. Both shoot great but the PX4 is the one I'm most accurate with.

Don't think you can go wrong with either one.

therefore, the PX4 was too thick for me. This is the only reason that I don't have one. You seem to have that mastered so if looks would be the main reason for buying, I don't thik that there is a better looking ploymer on the market than the PX4 so if you got that one, I would drool...

Haha, I'm leaning towards Beretta. The only drawback is how difficult they are to detail strip. On that note, how often should this be done?

If you go 9mm, then I would go with the Ruger, as I think it carries a little better. If you are going .40 or .45 then the PX4 is a much softer shooting gun and will give you better shots with faster followup, at least in my experiance.

The Ruger SR series (I have a SR9c), feel better in my hand, the newer models have fairly decent trigger pulls (I'm not a big fan of the DA/SA trigger system), the sights are quick and easy to acquire, and they have slightly better ergonomics than the Beretta PX4.

Can't tell you how often you "should" do it, but I can tell you I have never had a good reason to.
The only reason I would feel the need to is when something goes wrong that I feel I can fix, myself with my limited tools and experience.
Have I done it? Once. But only for curiosity. How often do you disassemble your car by removing the engine block, all seats, all panels and the exhaust system for a cleaning or just for fun? Me, I tend to drive it for fun. And clean the places I can reach.
