Anyone purchased a gun because you read about it from an online forum?

Anyone purchased a gun because you read about it accidently from an online forum? If so, what did you buy?
I certainly have. I've told myself I'm not going to buy a firearm this month and soon enough after visiting online forums likes these, and I see a member flashing their new toy on a thread, I eventually gave in and bought one.

I was tempted and eventually gave in to a Glock 29, PLR-16 and a Saiga 308.

:D CZ 52. I'm glad I was influenced!

Yes, several.

3" S&W Model 65. I heard such good things about the 3" Model 13 that I had to have one. Unfortunately I didn't see ANY of them so I settled for a 65.

If I had my eye on one that I thought I really wanted and the people here had nothing but good things to say about it, I probably would. I will definately take their advise and check it out for myself more closely. But when I think more about it, it would depend on what I was buying it for. (self defence, collecting)

The decision would altimately be mine to make free and clear of what advise other has given. What works for them may not work for me. If I make my own decision and it's not what I expected or turns out to be defective or something and I did my own thinking when buying it, I could hold no ill will about it except to myself.

I did buy a Hornady LNL AP from the good advise I received from of a post I put on this forum about loading 9mm ammunition on one. It was all good advise and I am very pleased with it.

Just one so far.

I did not know about the Cimarron high-polished blued 1911 until I saw one for sale here on THR, I looked at several reviews including Jeff at gunblast's review, and watched a few other youtubes and that was it, I was in love. I missed the one for sale here by less than a day, got the money together just a few hours too late, he had brought it to a LGS, but I wanted one badly at that point and found a great deal by posting a WTB ad and receiving suggestions from friendly members :) Found a great deal on one NIB for much less than they are going for on most websites! It's a beautiful gun, and is quite accurate. I have a few hundred rounds through it including a few mags of JHPs with no function problems at all. I bought the grips separately, after much thought on what would look best, they are Ajax.

The 'spottyness' is actually a leopard print sheet that acts as a lampshade on my living room ceiling, reflected on the mirror blued finish

I wouldn't have known the Vz.58 existed if it weren't for the Internet, as well as many other guns I have.

Yes, I bougt several.

I bought a HK USC to convert it to a UMP after learning about this practice on a forum. Forums have certainly influenced many of my other gun purchases but i wouldn't say they were the sole cause.

Would not have considered a CZ if it wasn't for the good press it gets on a lot of forums.

S&W CS9.

Now I just need to find a CS45.

Same for me, I bought my cz sp-01 phantom that way, I don't regret it . Shot 6-7 k rounds with it and still has good ad new.

I bought a Windham Weaponry AR to check out just because I appreciated the story behind the new company and thought it was a stand-up thing for Richard Dyke to do. Probably wouldn't have heard that story if it wasn't for the online forums, cause I don't care for gun magazines.

I got a Lanber O/U shotgun in part due to the many fine things said about them on online forums, and I have not been disappointed.

Savage 93g . Never owned a Savage before but it wont be my last accutrigger...........

March 16, 2012, 12:41 PM
I've seen some that I've either read about or researched, and most of my 'screaming deals' fall into this category, I saw it and knew it was a good buy, or it looked interesting and so I looked it up. I like early European pistols BTW... Sometimes you can find some nice 'cheap junk pistol' that the owner wants money for something nice like a S&W Sigma...

March 16, 2012, 12:42 PM
Oh yeah, more than once.

March 16, 2012, 12:49 PM
Four so far: Savage 17HMR, CZ .223, Highpoint 4595 carbine, S&W M&P 15Sport.

One to find: CZ 75B SA....

March 16, 2012, 12:59 PM
Most of them.

March 16, 2012, 01:02 PM
Same here. Most of them came from research I did from the comments of those who own/owned them before me.

March 16, 2012, 01:24 PM
CZ75b... I thought they were garbage until reading the positive press on here. I love them now! Buying my 9mm version soon.

March 16, 2012, 02:15 PM
I have been influenced in both directions, both for and against, by forums. I decide for myself what fit's my needs and then seek out opinion's from owners. I try to pay attention to those folks that actually own what I'm interested in. I have changed directions more than once due to negative reviews. I pay more attention to forum members then youtube reviewers.

Conversely, I'm turned off of $1200 Kimbers because of the interwebz too.

March 16, 2012, 04:08 PM
Kel-Tec Sub 2000 for me.

March 16, 2012, 04:24 PM
vz58 and a Norinco 1911 "sport". The handgun will be at my door next week. I am a little nervous on how it will look.

March 16, 2012, 04:29 PM
Ditto on the CZ75B.
Easily overlooked if you don't know better. Without seeking opinions online, I would have never given it much thought.

March 16, 2012, 05:08 PM
Absolutely. The internet research beats a sales pitch at Gander Mountain any day. Buying my first handgun I used the web to research guns and narrow it down to three choices, then went down to the range to rent them & got the one that fit the best. I knew all the major complaints about each gun, going prices, possibility of breakdowns, parts availability etc. in about three evenings without actually going to a bunch of stores. Saved me lots of aggravation and some cash too.

Online forums - and before that, magazine articles - have been contributing factors in several of my purchases, but not the sole one.

March 17, 2012, 03:06 PM
I had never heard of Tikka before joining this site. My .270 stainless light t3 is a joy to shoot and I have all of you to thank for that.

March 17, 2012, 04:27 PM
I got a draco ak and a saiga 5.45 after discovering them on forums. I got my cz75b, glock 22, and mossberg 500 after basically already knowing what i wanted but i used forums to hone my decision.

March 17, 2012, 06:09 PM
Not really. Usually I use the internet to research a particular gun I might be looking at.

I was influenced to buy my RIA 1911 Tactical after researching various 1911s. I wasn't disappointed.

March 17, 2012, 08:20 PM
Many.. like ~10+

I live in the boondocks. It if were not for the web I'd be screwed. I'm trying to think if I got a bum steer on any of the guns I bought after reading about them in a forum. Nope, not really. There are about two I wish I hadn't bought but truth be told I blame their short comings on the luck of the draw for individual guns. And some like my older Brno rim fires are real gems.

There's an incredible fountain of knowledge here and on other sites. I'm truly grateful to those who have shared their talents, knowledge and experience.

March 17, 2012, 08:28 PM
yep, my Spikes Tactical ST15 AR I bought a few months ago. So much good talk about it here and on arfcom I went for it. Glad I did. Thanks all.

March 17, 2012, 08:31 PM
Ruger SR1911. Never actually seen one in real life - just pics and video on the web.
Now I have one on Lay Away, after getting an email from an out of state store that they had one come in and I was next on the wait list. And I'm getting it for a much cheaper price than what you see on gunbroker, gunsamerica, etc.

I've blogged about it, started threads on it and even got a personal response email from Mike Fife (Ruger CEO) about it.

March 17, 2012, 08:33 PM
Bought my first CZ 75's because of internet buzz. Same for Savage bolt rifles and Mossberg shotguns. They proved to be among the worst guns I've ever owned.

But I've gotten lots of good advice as well. I'd have probably never tried Talley Lightweight mounts had it not been for positive comments online. I used to prefer Remington rifles, but after reading lots of positive comments I'm now convinced the Winchester is the better design. It hasn't always had the quality, but I prefer the design.

I bought my Uberti Walker Dragoon because of what I read here. Those guys at the black powder forum can be a bad influence.

March 17, 2012, 09:11 PM
one just like this one. I was looking at the stainless steel elite sig, but the grips felt too big in my hands, and I don't have small hands. this was 1/2 the cost and just as good, when I saw a picture a forum member on the CZ forums posted, I knew I had found what I was looking for

March 17, 2012, 09:42 PM
I bought my SW M&P9 because of all the great reviews online with it and the Apex trigger parts. I didn't even pull the stock trigger once. I pulled it apart as soon as I got it and put the new parts in.

March 17, 2012, 11:09 PM
