Is Anyone Up For A Good Laugh-

yesterday, a co-worker of my son in-laws went over to
Academy Sports and purchased a Taurus PT-111 9m/m.
Today, he shows up for work bragging about what a
find gun the Tauri is; and what a good deal he got at
Academy.

Said to my son in-law, "you know a lot of police officers
carry these things; so they gotta be good guns". ( )

Laughing loudly, my son in-law replied " thats funny,
cuz my paw in-law always talks about what a
POS Taurus products really are. Says he never, ever
would own such a piece of crap". :uhoh:

Fast forward back to my comment's. You know what,
my son in-law won that round; cuz thats exactly the
way I feel towards Tauri International firearms! :D

Best Wishes,

Well with that kind of an attitude towards a fellow gun owner and his purchase, you just lost my respect!!!!!!

Hmmm. I have never had a bad experience with any Taurus firearm. Maybe I'm just lucky. I worked in a gun shop and we sold hundreds, from snubbies to PT99s. I owned several, a number of my close friends owned one or more each, and not one problem, ever, zero, zip, zilch, nada. Fired +Ps in their snubbies, no sweat. Lots of hot magnum reloads in a model 66, all good. PT92 and 99s that ate everything they were fed and never hiccuped, even on hot, hard primered Egyptian SMG ammo.

Like I said, maybe I'm just lucky. My 2 cents, YMMV

And if you think the other guy's gun is a POS, even if you're right, at least be tactful for cripes sake. If you don't like that brand, lead by example and show him that your brand IS better. Make it a positive learning experiance.Take "The High Road". You really CAN catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

While the PT-111 is not nearly my favorite, it does go bang each and every time. I have no problems with Taurus. I have had only good luck so far.

My PT 92 has been very reliable since day one. Its the best $260 I spent on a gun purchase. My friend has one too, and its equally reliable as mine. ' might not be a PD's choice for issue weapon, but for civies like me, its a good enough choice.:)

Things from me on this....

A.) I had a Taurus .38 Snubbie and when my dad needed something for HD I transferred it to him (so I trusted it enough to give it to my dad), and you know what I did? I ran out and replaced it with another Taurus snubbie but this time a nice .357, ported, & hammerless.....great gun, never fails, always goes down range.... (and they stand behind their product).

B.) In todays world, if I find someone that has guns and wants to talk about them I am excited.... I would never harsh them or their choice.... With all of the liberals, we gun enthusists need to stick together. Sig and HK Owners, CZ and Glock Owners, Colt owners and Kimbler owners, and even Taurus, Jennings, and Hi-Point owner, we are all gun owners and we need to stick together...

The time for debate and about the gun was before he bought it, after he did, you need to let it lie... If you had a buddy and he got married. You would tell her you did not like her before they got married and they you would keep your mouth shut after then wed.. same principle applies here...

Doesn't Evan Marshal carry a Taurus?

Quite honestly, Ala Dan, I think your son-in-law needs to learn a little about tact. I wouldn't feel that way if he had said that before the purchase, but not after. Maybe not a good analogy, but, to me, it's sort of like him saying to his co-worker, "My God man! You just married her?! What a dog!"

[Edit]
Sounds like Denmark116 and I were thinking along the same lines at the same time. :)

I guess I should congratulate your son-in-law on a wonderful arguement. Never heard a better come-back than "Well my father-in-law doesn't like them, thinks they are a POS and so it must be true." I mean, that surely beats personal experiance or any actual evidence. ;)

Of course, not to be unfair, said co-worker isn't much of a thinker either. His comment is much like saying "Most Americans believe in slavery, so it must be okay."

Gosh Guy's -

Can't you light'en up a little? Case in point, the fact that
the owner stated that "it ought to be a good gun cuz
police officers carry them"; really was the point at which
time laughter should have erupted! :D IMHO, people
who own guns are like brothers; WE band together.
I just wish the owner would have sought some type
of professional advice, before he made the purchase.
I, for one would have gladly invited him over to the
house where we could have sat down and had a
very good conversation about firearms. After all, I
feel like I am qualified to discuss the ownership of
quite a few firearms; having owned numerous makes
and models over the years.

After our conversation, if he had insisted on the Taurus
PT111; I would not have tried to sway him in another
direction. When all is said and done, fellows I'm here
to help with a problem; not create one! I speak of
Taurus products from my own personal experience
with one such firearm, a .38 caliber Taurus model 82;
which is suppose to be an exact copy of Smith HB
model 10. For you folks general information, I tried
this weapon on a police qualification course. With
about a 25 lb. double-action trigger pull; this thing
would best serve as a boat anchor! I'm sure Tauri
International has improved their quality since that
date; but the thought of that weapon is still fresh
in my memory bank.

If in doubt as to the PT111's quality, run a search
here and also over on TFL and read the horror's,
and lack of warranty repair service on the Tauri's.
I'm going to invite this gentleman out to the range
and offer to instruct him in a NRA safety course,
and a basic handgun marksmanship course free
of charge! So see, I'm not such a bad guy after
all.

I own and am carrying as we speak a PT111. The trigger sucks, I'll give you that, but it has been as reliable as my Ruger P95, for over 1000 rounds, and it has beaten the socks off my issue Glock 22, so you can trash talk all the PT111's you want, but in real life, they work. Every major brand has had problems with one pistol or another, I firmly believe that the modern series of millenium pistols are great, and I would hardly recomend them. I carry one either as aprimary or a backup in harms way every day.

I can't recall the members handle (or name for that matter),
and rightly don't remember if it was here, or over at TFL;
but he had a big problem with a NIB PT-111 coming from
the factory without the pins that algin the slide to frame!
When he contacted Taurus warranty repair, they simply
said "OH! that happens all the time". My question is
where was their QC, cuz it should have been caught
before the firearm left the factory!

Glad to hear that you folks are satisfied with Taurus
products. Maybe one day, I will have a change of heart
and give them another shot?

no offense but can you name me a gun you can't do this for?

:what: The PO-lice use Tauri? Gosh, good thing there's a gun show today. I better go buy one! I want to get one that looks like a SIG, that way if people don't look too close, they'll think I'm tactical.

I gotta go with the "not very funny" camp.

I speak of Taurus products from my own personal experience
with one such firearm, a .38 caliber Taurus model 82;
which is suppose to be an exact copy of Smith HB
model 10.

So, your experience with one ten year-old DA medium frame wheelgun allows you to speak as an authority about this kid's shiny new 9mm semiauto?

That's like saying "Colts are crap! I had one, and the collet bushing flew downrange!":uhoh:

Thank goodness that when a younger Ala Dan picked up his first P-220, he wasn't greeted by someone going "My father in-law says those suck. They rust up and have lousy DA triggers; you just wasted your money."

Ala,
Respectfully.....Ill expand on my point given earlier.......Im not a scholar nor gentleman most of the time..but Im smart enough to call'm as I see'm.

Your point is well taken.....my experience with Taurus guns is quite the opposite of yours. 100% satisfied with metal framed autos and wheels also. The Taurus rep is famous all over the internet and doesnt need to be expanded on currently.

What wasnt funny was how you came across in your posting. You have an obvious NEWBIE....who is easily swayed and excitable. These my friend are great guys. If treated correctly they can become the most avid shooters/greatest supporters of all things = to guns. Or if treated harshly they can get an attitude about guns/gunsnobs and become just another
brand hater/whore.

You seem to ignore this kids obvious excitement about getting "a gun" and slowly breaking him into the truth. NOT THAT TAURUS's are a POS or LEO's DONT carry them....thats not the truth by any stretch of the imagination.
I KNOW they are not all bad guns........as do you and simple logic dictates that some LEO's somewhere may very well carry these guns.

But instead you cut this kid off at the knees, left him bleeding on the floor and laughed as you walked out of the room.

Frankly, given your level of knowledge and experience...Id expect something very different from you................even if he bought a Jennings.

Thus all of the comments..........................something to think about.

Shoot well.

Sorry folks, if I stepped on some toes; as I didn't mean too! :(

In all fairness, most of you old timers know that I'm a
damn decent guy; willing to help at the drop of a hat.
What you don't know, is how this fellow (NOT KID, by
any stretch of the imagination) takes constructive
criticism. In other words, you can't tell him anything
most of the time; cause he thinks he is far too
smart, and he knows more than you!

Yes, I made fun of his equipment; NOT him personally.
For that, I will apologize. As I guess there are some
Taurus lovers out there somewhere; as my friend
PCRCCW has pointed out.

And, Tamara is well aware of MY decision to
disassociate myself with Tauri products; YES due to
one really bad experience with a 10-year old wheel
gun, specifically a .38 caliber model 82.

Att: PCRCCW- many thanks for clarifying your post my
friend; at least you had the decency to explain why
you copped an attitude!

Other than this post, I will have NO further comments on this matter. Case closed!

Hi all,
All it takes is one aw s@#t to wipe out a hundred atta boys. Ala Dan has helped many people on this site, including me. We all have made statements that may have rubbed someone the wrong way, but hopefully those people don't lose respect for us. I know I've made statements to people that they didn't like, but they never said "I've lost respect for you because of what you said". That's pretty heavy.
Dan, for what It's worth, I still have respect for you. I might not always agree with what you or anyone else says. I call it a differance of opinion. That's what makes the world go round.
good luck, and be safe.

ps. Blues Bear, you said you needed a laugh? How about "my luck is so bad, if I owned a pet duck it would drown" :D

Concerning the warranty policy. I currently own only one Taurus revolver ( an early M-85 stainless 2") it's no S&W, but it is a very servicable handgun. Anyhow I owned a PT-99 at one point and put somewhere around 3,000-4,000 rounds through it, before I...."I" blew it up. I was a kid, and pumped reloads out recklessly, on my rockchucker with an old lyman powder-drop. I double....maybe triple charged a whole pile of ammo with double-base powder one day and went out the next to shoot. twords the end, one of the locking (lug's???) sheared of in the slide and she locked up. I knew what I did, sent it back to Taurus...admitted it was my bad. They sent me a hat, a gold plated pocket knife and 3 letters of apology, and a brand new pistol. I have delt with glock, sig, smith&wesson and colt over the years and I have to say that tuarus is the best I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Glock was the worst. My father also has a raging bull in .454 that was out of time a bit. I sent that back for him about a year ago and had similar reasults....only thing is they were much faster this time and I only got one letter of apology + a hat:D No flame here Alan, but I do think your very limited experiance needs expanding. Why dont you ask to borrow the offending pistola and give us all a range report.:)

... so this Irishman walks out of a bar. Hey! It could happen! :D

But, seriously folks, Ala Dan is a good guy and a respected member here - still. His thread did come across in the wrong way and most of us (all of us?) didn't find it quite as amusing as he thought it was. I guess you had to be there as they say.

Anyway, to prevent any further or possible abuse to a good THR member, as Ala Dan himself said, "case closed". If anyone would like to open a thread on a Taurus range report, please, by all means, feel free to do so.
