I have this pistol with a 5" barrel and have been told by gunsmith that the "cap and ball" ammunition it fires is not available. I would like to know
#1- Is ammunition available
#2 - Approximate date of manufacture of the pistol
#3 - Approximate value

It is in very good condition and the serial number is 60256 on one line with the additional 5 stamped below it. Just trying to verify some information on the pistol from someone more knowledgeable about these pistols than I am.

Any help appreciated.

Cap & Ball ammo?
You need to find a new gunsmith that knows what he is talking about!

It is chambered in 32 Long/Short Colt or .32 Colt New Police.
Which is the same thing as .32 S&W & .32 S&W Long, only the colt version used a flat point bullet and the S&W used a round nose bullet..
Ammo is widely available everywhere on the net or at any well stocked gun shop.

The serial number dates it to 1908.

There is no possible way to estimate the value unless you post some good photo's so someone would have at least an idea of the condition and whether it has been refinished or modified.

Value of collectible old guns is about totally dependent of correctness and remaining finish..
