More Spielberg PC BS

Someone gave us a DVD copy of the movie "E.T." which contains the original theatrical release and the 2002 release.

We decided to watch the 2002 release tonight.

There is a scene where the kids are on their bikes escaping from the authorities and, as they fly over the cars blocking their way, the cops are holding -- walkie talkies.

WAIDADAMINUTE!

Pop in the original theatrical release and go to the same scene and the cops are holding -- shotguns.

So, once again, Spielberg has worked his movie magic -- ala "Schildler's List" -- and removed all of the firearms from the movie.

What an absolute JERK!

You did'nt know He did this?
An entertainment forum I go to had a big debate on this a while back.
Sad, sad stuff.
He's going to alter Jaws too.
So I guess instead of a Garand being used in the last scene... It'll be changed to a harpoon gun. Or something else that's just as lame.:(
There are times when digital effects are great, and others when they are not. This is one of those cases.

Hey, they also changed a line when the kids scare the Mother.
It was something like "oh! You all look like a bunch of little terrorists!"
Post 9-11, it was changed to some lame-o one. Forgot what the new one is.

I think I'm going to be sick...

Dont forget the same nonsense with starwars too. i really hate it when people pull this crap. The best part is that they then sink the original versions so you can never get ahold of them.

"So I guess instead of a Garand being used in the last scene... It'll be changed to a harpoon gun."

Was it a Garand? I thought he was using a bolt action. It's been quite a while since I've seen "Jaws".

How exactly did the editing go in Schindler's List?

And are you serious about the Garand being changed to a harpoon gun?

Absolutely ridiculous. Is there a warning at the beginning, like:

THIS FILM HAS BEEN MODIFIED FROM THE ORIGINAL VERSION. IT HAS BEEN FORMATTED TO FIT YOUR SCREEN AND CONFORM TO POLITICALLY CORRECT VIEWPOINTS.

How exactly did the editing go in Schindler's List? The film was true to the actual events until the ending where they cowed the Nazis with a glorious speech.

In reality, Schindler armed the Jews so they could fight for their lives if the Nazis decided slaughter them.

Isn't Spielberg supposed to have a really huge firearms collection? Seems I've heard that several times, but do not know for certain.

I remember the rifle used in Jaws being a Garand. Could be wrong. You know, the more I think about it... Was it a Bolt action?
Anyone have a copy on DVD or VHS?

are you serious about the Garand being changed to a harpoon gun?

No, I'm not serious... But... I would'nt be surprised if it was changed to one.
Maybe a flare gun...
Or a staple gun...
Or a...:D

Remember Jurassic Park 2? The heroic environmentalist pretty boy(played by Vince Vaughn) removed the rounds from the big game hunter's(Pete Postlethwaite's character) side-by-side elephant rifle and replaced them with spent shell casings. The team was subsequently massacred by the T-Rex, and more of them were killed by other dinosaurs when they were chased into the tall grass. Vaughn's character is nevertheless portrayed as the hero. The T-Rex is brought down by a dart containing a glorified sedative.

The irony is that any animal this stupid would go extinct pretty quickly.

Actually they lampooned these PC digitized re-releases on an episode of the cartoon South Park. For example, in the opening scenes of Saving Private Ryan, the guns were all replaced by walkie-talkies, just as in E. T.

The South Park kids made it their duty to keep directors from going back to screw up their own classic movies. Lots of satire and hijinks followed.

At the very end, the "original" cuts of the movies were all put in a "safe" place. In a scene clearly modeled on the final storage place of the Ark of the Covenant at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark, the cartoon had a guy wheeling them into a warehouse "where they would be safe forever, where nobody would EVER see them again."

Then the view pulled back and a sign on the warehouse said "Red Cross 9/11 Relief Supplies." :D

How could I have forgotten that episode?!
That was some funny stuff :D

I raised my hand and asked him what about when the kids all went for knives?

Hah!

Thanks P.I. . I was searching for pics on the web to no avail.

I see its getting way more ubsurd than Greedo shooting first.

If kids don't see guns they'll just go away right? Wait, I see. Nudity is becomming more accepted in movies, guns less accepted. New motion picture ratings to follow.

G: No guns even mentioned. All the little sheep may attend.
PG: The word "GUN" used. Guidance suggested.
PG-13: Gun actually seen. Parents strongly cautioned.
R: Gun actually operated. Possibly fired. Must be accompanied by adult.
NC-17: Extremely graphic depictions of full-auto weapons fire. No children admitted.

It's social conditioning like this that will turn the next generation into a bunch of whining victims wondering why all the murderers have guns even though they are illegal. By that point its too late.
