These are nice looking guns. Does anyone actually have one on this board? What cal do you recommend?
How do they compare to a Ruger or is it too early to tell?
Thanks

Russ, I have the Beretta Stampede deluxe model chambered in 357 mag. I have also had several Ruger single actions revolvers to compare to. My Beretta shoots very nicely and is a very handsome piece. I believe it is nicer looking than the Rugers. Having said that it would be hard to beat a Ruger single action for brute strength and accuracy. If it were my first single action revolver I think I would lean toward the Ruger.

Thanks rblack,
This would be my first SA revolver. The Berettas sure are pretty but then
the Rugers don't look too bad either. I was leaning toward a .357 due to ammo price and the fact that I have a couple of DA revolvers in .357 already. It seems like I have so many calibers that I feel a need to narrow it down a bit. Too hard to keep up.

The Beretta is just the Uberti with different stamps. Beretta bought Uberti if what I heard is correct. The one differance I noticed was the Beretta uses a transfer bar and frame mounted firing pin instead of the pin on the hammer.

The Stampede is NOT worth the price. The ones that I have seen were rough. The nickeled one I saw in person needed more metal polishing all over. The lack of prep and polish showed up in the rough nickel finish. The Deluxe model that I handled was pretty finish wise. The internals were rough, full of grit/grime and needed lots of stoning and polishing. The screws are still Uberti soft and bugger easily. The grips on the ones I have seen were not fitted precisely and looked like they belonged on a MARX capgun. You need to look close at these in person before buying them. The quality is spotty, maybe even a 50/50 situation. I bought Rugers and I still went through them. A Stampede is a overpriced pistol with iffy quality. So were Ubertis.

Are there any other Colt SA clones that have both the transfer bar AND the half-cock to reload the chambers?
The Beretta is that, but I'm willing to look at others. The Ruger is too heavy from the original for me to consider.

There is the EAA Bounty Hunter. These are the size/weight of the Ruger Vaqueros and license the transfer bar safety from Ruger.

Believe it or not, Taurus introduced a line of "cowboy six-guns" at the Shot Show, They are Colt-clones with a transfer bar safety. Exterior finish and fit was very good. Actions were smooth and correctly tuned. Don't expect to see any before late Summer though. I can say they were well received by attending cowboys and cowgals.
Taurus and several others were also showing a replica of the Colt Lightning rifle chambered in .45 Colt.
