I know arguement that these 2 rounds are the same. Going from these specs

the rounds a different. So lets say you have an AR15 chambered for 5.56. Would it be less apt to jam if you only shot .223 ammo through it? Just curious....Tim

The rounds are just different loads, really... commercial .223rem ammunition is loaded lighter than NATO spec 5.56mm, that's all.

Everything I've read says that it's ok to shoot .223 in a 5.56 chamber, but not the reverse.
Third_Rail, did you even look at the link? There are slight dimensional differences between the two rounds, even though they're pretty close.

Yes, I did look at the link, but I have PERSONALLY fired NATO 5.56mm ammunition out of .223rem chambered rifles, both magazine fed and single shot. I've never had a problem with it, but then again I never fired a NATO 5.56mm round out of a tight tolerance "match grade" .223rem rifle.

This question wasn't ment as a .223 vs 5.56 debate. Just curious if you thought that .223 would be less prone to jamming in a 5.56 chambered rifle? Thanks Tim

TimH- I doubt it, but if you want to give me a pair of M4s to test, I'd be happy to oblige :)
