What do you shoot and have good luck with?
I'm shooting old Mil Surp stuff now, but would like to have better and lay in a supply.
Thanks.

I've alway shot 147 or 150 gr. FMJ Winchester, UMC, American Eagle, PMC, but get much better accuracy from my 168 gr. handloads.

What do mean by better? I've always been happy with mil surplus ammo. I wouldn't use it for hunting but for practice and range work and keeping some around the home it seems just fine for my needs. Are you having any specific issues with it?

A lot of the surplus supplies are drying up. I'm going to start trying some commercial stuff soon.
I've had very good results with Radway Green, a couple of Belgian varieties and also Prvi (PPU).
My best results have come with the DAG/MEN ammo, even with the rounds with the surface corrosion.

i shoot alotta 150 and 168gr commercial .308 ammo as well the 7.62x51 German DAG , but steer clear of the heavier 180gr .308 stuff...extended use of it can be hard on the op rod.

I think it was Hornady that made some "match" ammo specifically made safe for the Garands...

This is true, but the OP is talking M1A.

Federal Gold Medal Match for best accuracy out of the M1A (for commonly available off the shelf ammo, anyway).
They are loaded with Sierra Match Kings (HPBT), and have been good for me.
168 gr is what I use most, but if I were wanting to stretch the distance out, I'd probably go with the 175 grain.
FWIW, there is some Remington ammo (premiere match, IIRC) loaded with the same bullet, which has not been bad, but not as consistent as the Federal for me.

The M14/M1A uses a self adjusting gas regulator and can take some pretty heavy loads, however, I wouldn't recommend the Privi Partisan stuff unless you use an adjustable gas lock screw, even on the M1A
The stuff is loaded warm.
I would also avoid any loads of 180-200 grains without an adjustable lock screw.

My M1As and AR10s are expensive rifles, I dont shoot cheap ammo in them.
