What will you do if the ban ends?

January 30, 2003, 12:54 AM
Let's be optimistic for a second and assume the Assault Weapons ban DIES as it should in 2004.

What will be the first thing you do?

Me, I'll continue to stock up on FAL mags. Speaking of which, I'll take my FAL, have that silly useless muzzle brake removed. Then I'll have the barrel rethreaded for inch-pattern, and install an L1A1 5-slot flash hider, complete with bayonet lug. EVIL!

I probably won't do anything. I already have plenty of full capacity magazines for everything I own.
As far as my sport utility rifles, I am thankful that I discovered the muzzle brake. I am in the process of taking the flash suppressors off my pre-ban rifles and replacing them with Wilson Combat muzzle brakes. I have a collapsable stock on one of my pre-bans. It looks cool but sucks as a real stock. So, if given the choice, I would still buy what we now call, post-ban rifles.

Now if the ban on current machine gun manufacture for civilian sales was recinded, that is another story.

January 30, 2003, 01:09 AM
As I fully intend to be departing this Socialist Cesspool this year I'll probably have already engaged in an orgy of gun buying. Forbidden things like AK's, AR's, other evil guns with evil thumbhole stocks and pistol grips and (gasp!) handguns NOT on a state "approved" list.

As for the AW ban... whatever I can get my hands on before someone else comes along and tells me I can't have it!

Even living in the Caliban's nanny-state we've manged to put together a decent "starter collection" since August. After we leave, we'll get really serious. If the AW ban goes away it.... oh, boy :D

Doing our best to give Davis, Lockyer, Feinstein, Boxer and the rest of the grabbers sleepless nights. :neener:

January 30, 2003, 01:13 AM
A collapsing stock on the future AR15. A beta-C mag or three.

January 30, 2003, 01:32 AM
I have all I need in that area but I would celebrate by buying more!

January 30, 2003, 01:46 AM
......try to catch the monkeys

January 30, 2003, 02:46 AM
Dang it Airwolf! I've been drooling over M1A carbines recently, and you have to go and..and and..and HAVE ONE!

Grr...better start saving, I guess...

January 30, 2003, 02:58 AM

We were real surprised that it handled and balanced better than a full-size M1A. It's just 4 inches off the barrel but it was noticeable. We decided to bite the bullet and get one before the Sacramento Socialists try to ban it.

I've got the Springfield scope and mount deal on order but I'm going to mount an Aimpoint or Nikon VSD on it. It's the 0-300 yard gun.

The one above it is a Tikka Whitetail in .30-06. That's getting a Nikon Monarch 6.5-20x44 and bi-pod for those over 300 yard targets.

January 30, 2003, 03:04 AM
I'll bet you could do fine with that out to 500 and beyond, with practice. Hell, the Marines shoot their M16A2s out to 550 meters.

How much muzzle velocity do you loose between by shortening the barrel from 22" to 18"?

January 30, 2003, 03:11 AM
dance a jig

January 30, 2003, 03:12 AM
I seem to remember my research on TFL coming up with an answer that averaged out to "not much". That seems to hold true for both muzzle velocity and loss of accuracy over a standard M1A.

I was looking for a battle rifle, not a tack driver so the slight loss in FPS and accuracy doesn't trouble me. I also haven't had the chance to shoot it beyond 100 yards yet.

January 30, 2003, 03:14 AM
I've got the same trouble with my FAL. I want to try it at 400, 500, 600 yards, see how good I can get with the irons.

But my range only goes out to 200 yards. :(

Looking for a new range...

January 30, 2003, 03:19 AM
Mp5 and AR-15.

Eventually a Mac-10. Probably in .45.

All manner of other toys to be acquired, but those two are at the top.

January 30, 2003, 03:24 AM
Gee lets see. I think Ill get a telescopic stock for my M4. Just think if the band ends I can buy a evil black stock for my rifle. For my already evil black looking ASULT rifle. I wonder if it will make it more dangerous.

January 30, 2003, 03:51 AM
Stock up on full cap mags. Such as...

1) 15/17 & 32 rounders for my Glocks.
2) 13 and 15 round mags for future HK handguns.
3) HK G36 mags and "parts" for my Sl8.. HK UMP .45 mags..
4) 30 round HK MP5 mags, as well as HK93/94 mags..
5) Ruger 10/22 "full cap" mags..
6) You get the jist...

As well as flashhiders and folding stocks for various rifles..
And this is just to get me started.. :D

January 30, 2003, 04:02 AM
Could we get an FN Five Seven?

Seems dumb that we cannot due to no 10 round mags.

I will move to FL and send Gov. Davis naughty polaroids of me posing with all my evil guns.

January 30, 2003, 04:35 AM
What will be the first thing you do?
My bad!:uhoh: You wanted the "first" thing and I list other things that are my "to do" list... :D

See #3 as the "first" thing that I will do.. Stocking up on HK G36 mags is my first priority..

The other things and many more will follow along a few minutes, hours and days later..

January 30, 2003, 05:01 AM
Hey Airwolf, is that a CZ-97 I see? They're pretty sweet shooters, aren't they? I love mine.

January 30, 2003, 05:23 AM
Yup. The 97 B is sweet.

That's our (mine and my GF's) collection.

Hers: CZ 75BD, CZ 97B, Para 14.45 Limited, Beretta Cougar 8000 F (9mm), Beretta 96 Elite II, Ruger 10/22 Deluxe.

Mine: Wather P99 Military (.40S&W), HK USP45, Springfield XD-9, Walther P22 (5 inch), Springfield 1911-A1 Ultra-Compact, Mossberg 590A1, Russian M-44 Mosin-Nagant, Springfield M1A Scout, Tikka Whitetail .30-06.

January 30, 2003, 10:56 AM
Pendragon, the reason you cannot get a FN Five seveN is not the mag but the round. 5.7mm is a armor piercing handgun round which means you could never buy the ammo let alone the gun.

Back on topic. What will I do when the 1994 AW Ban sunsets in 2004 (which it will do according to the wording of it)? Not much, I will be too busy abiding by the replacement legislation that you can bet your butt will be enacted prior to the sunset and voted for by virtually everyone which George Bush Jr. has already said he would sign.

The big question is will 922(r) guns be included in the new ban.

The government has been trying to eliminate military "style" weapons for decades. Keep in mind it was George Sr. who banned the first ones with the 1989 Importation Ban. They tried to bring in "sporter" version (thumbhole stock HKs, AKs, etc.) and all were quickly labelled "not suitable for sporting use" by the ATF and banned from further importation.

Then to address domestic military "style" rifles we got the 1994 AW Ban which banned firearms by feature as well as manufacturer. The prevented a crop of domestic copies of these rifles. But it created a exemption of sorts an allowed "10 part" compliant AK and HK type rifles in somewhat preban configuration.

To finally slam the door shut once and for all the wording of the new legislation will ban the manufacture or importation of ANY semi automatic rifle capable of accepting a high capacity magazine. We already have single stack 10 round AK and the new HK SL8 to serve as examples. This is how they will finally get it done. We will still have ARs, AKs, FALs, etc. but they will be 10 round only and won't accept preban mags.

All existing 922(r) guns will become pre 04 prebans and the same increase in price and demand associated with pre94 and pre89 weapons can be expected.

Nobody likes a killjoy.

Unless you're gifted with precognition and can see the future with certainty, I'm going to remain optimistic and hopeful.

Screw all that doom and gloom crap. It depresses me. Besides, why give up before the game even starts?

We're not licked yet.

January 30, 2003, 11:44 AM
13 round mags for the USP9C! Lots and lots of them....

January 30, 2003, 11:55 AM
the Caliban

:D   :D

That's funny on several levels.

January 30, 2003, 11:56 AM
Buy some more CZ-75 mags, and some Glock 17 mags.

January 30, 2003, 11:56 AM
As many "regular capacity "P99 16 rounders I can get, 15 and 20 rounds 226 mags.
An AR15, MP5, SteyrAUG and a FN FAL I'd be a happy camper at that point.

January 30, 2003, 11:59 AM
The best course of action IMNSHO, would be to try to figue out what the demoncraps are going are going to ban next time they get in power and really stock up on those items.

January 30, 2003, 12:03 PM
I will immediately go buy 5 or 6 Glock 20 mags. I don't even own the pistol yet and won't get it unless the mag ban dies.

January 30, 2003, 12:04 PM
I'm going to put a folding thumbhole stock, flash hider, and bayonet lug on my Red Rider BB gun.

January 30, 2003, 12:15 PM
I will buy probably 20-30 high caps for my 10/22. I hope someone starts making those steel lipped ones again. I've got enough magazines
I'll probably celebrate by buying an FAL. I may also slap a flash hider on my postban Colt.

January 30, 2003, 12:35 PM
I'l pick up an AR that I apparently should have gotten before...

Sam Adams
January 30, 2003, 02:30 PM
I'll be stocking up on cheap 20-round M1A mags and normal capacity mags for 10-22s. I don't have either, since the high price of the pre-ban mags has pushed them down the priority list.

I'll also be picking up newly made full-capacity mags for my AR, hopefully for about $10 each.

January 30, 2003, 03:05 PM
What will you do if the ban ends?

I will laugh at all the folks that paid $100+ for a magazine. ;) :D

January 30, 2003, 03:35 PM
Live the American dream & get deeper in debt! :what:

January 30, 2003, 05:39 PM
While I hear delta elite laughing in the back ground I will spend disposable income on magazines and what not in the order I feel they will be threatened in the future.

Even if that thing is not replaced, do any current import laws that would remain hurt import of certain magazines from certain countries?

January 30, 2003, 05:39 PM
Nobody likes a killjoy.

True, but the possibility needs to be firmly lodged in the back of one's mind.

BTW, did GWB really say he'd sign something to uphold the ban? WOW! And can you believe there are people who still try to argue with me when I say there isn't all that much difference between the parties? The only things they differ on is not IF they should control, but WHAT they WILL control.

Now, to answer the original question, I would probably pick up a few 15-round mags. for my CZ75BD, and 6-12 20-rounders for my future AR15.

P.S. You can bet that the Democrats are going to make this a big issue next year. I have no doubt it's on their agenda, to be trotted out at just the right time. And you can also bet that few, if any, Republicans are going to stand up against them on this.

January 30, 2003, 05:50 PM
Not a darn thing cause they will still be banned in my state. We have an ban on guns with evil features and full cap mags just like the Feds unfortunitly it is not supposed to expire in 04.

January 30, 2003, 06:36 PM

Yes he did. He even wen't farther by saying he'd support a ban on the importation of high capacity magazine made before 1994. And remember it was George Sr. who banned most AWs anyway.

January 30, 2003, 07:49 PM
Buy normal cap mags for guns I don't have.........................yet!

a folding stock for the AK, and a Flash suppressor

AR-15 with the shortest stock possible.

And SO much more.

January 30, 2003, 10:08 PM
"What will be the first thing you do?"

Laugh at those who shelled out the big bucks for high capacity magazines.

Actually, I'll have to think of something else, seeing how I do that all the time as is.

January 30, 2003, 10:14 PM
(1) Purchase the Bren gun used in the movie "Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels".

(2) Sell the Pinto and buy an authentic 68 Shelby GT350.

(3) Dump Britany Spears and marry the Olson Twins.

(What the hey, if we're going to fantasize, might as well think big ...)

*shudder*

January 31, 2003, 12:19 AM

Can someone tell me how the '94 ban going away is going to make it any easier to buy an MP5 ('68 imported machinegun ban, '86 new machinegun ban) or a Steyr AUG ('89 Bush ban on imported scary-looking rifles)?

January 31, 2003, 12:28 AM
Oh stop!

we all know that soon there will be cheap hi-caps suddenly available everywhere (provided by the monkeys) and gunshops will just drop the price on everything

January 31, 2003, 12:58 AM
max out my credit card:D

I keep going to www.awbansunset.com (http://www.awbansunset.com) to find out new things about our progress and to help end the ban. I don't know a lot about politics, but if we control all three branches can't we keep something like a new ban from comming up for vote? I think it will sunset but it's not over until the fat lady sings.

February 5, 2003, 05:36 PM
The rumor was that GW would sign the bill to renew the AW ban if Congress passes it *wink*. If Congress doesn't pass it, the antis can't get too mad at ol GW, seems pretty shrewd...

I'd stock up on quality "regular capacity" magazines, and I'd definitly think about an AR-15.

February 6, 2003, 07:18 PM
I thought about this the other day. I realized that I don't own a firearm anymore that would accept a high capacity magazine other than an M1A.

Hopefully, somebody would start producing decent magazines for the M1A again so I could stock up fairly cheaply. I'd pick up a bunch. Other than that, I wouldn't be doing much.

February 6, 2003, 08:19 PM
Who me? I'll do a little dance make a little love , git down tonight!!
But in reality, it'll never happen.

February 6, 2003, 09:48 PM
I'll probably be adding evil features to my guns while hungover (I'll have the ammo stored far away from the guns), the ban expires on 9/13/04, which happens to be my younger brother's 21st birthday.

Now the question is, when does the ban actually expire? the second after 12AM GMT on the morning of 9/14/04, or EST? Does the ban expire in each time zone at 12AM local time or does it expire for the entire nation when the local time in Washington DC is 12AM? If the last one is the correct one, the guys in Hawaii are going to get to have more fun than use East Coasters. :(

February 7, 2003, 12:58 PM
First of all, it's WHEN, not IF.:D
To answer the question - why, working to repeal the FOPA machinegun clause, of course!

February 7, 2003, 07:59 PM
I'm gonna get that Kel-Tec 9mm folding carbine I've been wanting.

A modest dream, admittedly, but I could buy mags for it that held more than 9 rounds. I've got enough Glock 21 .45 normal capacity magazines but that doesn't help the Kel-Tec. Never had a 9mm anything before '94.

February 8, 2003, 01:07 PM
Why would you stock up on G36 mags when you still will not be able to get a gun that uses them? Same goes for the UMP .45 mags.
