Hey all I've been toying with the idea of getting a smaller handgun just to carry in my truck or back pocket, I know everybody likes different ones but I'm just lookin for some ideas.
Thanks, Evan

More input please. At this point there are a thousand possibilities. Do you prefer revolvers or semi auto? Do you have a caliber preference. Any price limit? More data please.

Preferred caliber?
Price point?
Lots of people have been happy with the Ruger LCP/LC9.
Lots of people like Kel-Tecs, and they come in a variety of "small pistol calibers", like .25,.32, .380, etc.

What pistol(s) do you have now? Often, there are compact or subcompact versions of larger pistols.

I like the S&W J-frames and Kahr PM9, P380.

But I still prefer to use a Crossbreed IWB or Ravens style OWB holster even for these little guys. For warmer days where I'd have to IWB my Glock or 1911, I can often CCW a J Frame or Kahr OWB for comfort.

Even in my heaviest leather jacket, which has to be 15+ pounds, the weight of even small pistols in the pocket make it off center and cumbersome. So I CCW on my belt only.

I like my Ruger SR40C for that situation, small enough for CC or small spaces but enough power to be useful.

Back pocket = Kahr PM9
Truck = Glock 19 or 26

However, not sure what "small" means to you. For me, it's nothing below 9mm. And, the Kahr is as small as I've gone, but since replaced with a higher capacity Glock 26 I shoot far better that also uses my Glock 17/19 mags. I only belt carry though. YMMV.

I'm gonna zero in on the back pocket clue and go with the P238. Or a Kahr 380. Maybe an LCP, or bodyguard. One of the new little 9's.

OP. How many pockets you got?

I don't have one but it is on my list, and I am going to say a small revolver like an LCR or a S&W snubbie. I say this because in the winter, you can toss one in your jacket pocket (by itself, of course) and in an uncomfortable situation be holding it without anyone being any wiser. In the summer, it could tuck IWB and be covered with a short t-shirt or polo. For the back pocket it would be hard to miss with the LCP or Kel-tec.

For the truck, I would say a GP100.

Yeah, you just did...

OP - I have carried a couple different revolvers and I think a 38 is a good gun... you can get a quality gun for around $500.... Good round, and most are .38/357 which is versatile.

I have had both the Ruger LCP and Keltec P3AT and didnt care for either of them because it was too hard to get a good 7-10 yard group with such a small frame (My opinion anyway....)

My most recent (and current favorite) is the Kahr CW9... it is small enough to conceal easily, 9mm and cheap at under $400....

Just my opinion....

Depends on the amount you wanna spend. My back poclet gun is a p238.

Two different recommendations from me. If you want something for both, I'd go with a Ruger LC9 or Beretta Nano. My "truck gun" is not my pocket pistol, however.

I agree with Smitty... Two different things.

Pocket gun is a Kahr PM9, Ruger LC9, KelTec PF9, really any name with two letters and a "9" at the end lol. .380s are ok, but if you can do a 9mm, do a 9mm.

A truck gun, on the other hand... Now that, for me, is a Glock 20 (10mm), 21 (.45 ACP), or 31/22 (.357 Sig/.40 S&W).

Truck gun...Ruger GP 100. Leave it loaded for 150 years, pull it out when you need it, and it still goes bang.

Back pocket...Ruger LC9...just about as small as most .380s, uses same pocket holster and shoot a full-powered 9mm round!
