OK... reading those threads, as recommended, here is my thought on the matter.
No, because there is no difference between hunting and military style firearms. Plenty of people go into battle with Remington 700s and plenty of people hunt with AR-15s.
I'd expect a distinction maybe on the Brady Campaign website, but not here.
That subtle message that there isn't a difference between types of firearms goes along with THR's mission of being a Second Amendment advocate.
Rifles are rifles and as gun owners that should be our message.
I understand the principle, and laudable as it is, I think even a semi-auto section vs. say, a bolt action and/or rimfire section, gives folks with an INTEREST in building/modding/fixing those types of rifles, a little LESS 'clutter' to dig through, when researching their own needs.
I belong to boards where there is LOTS of differentiation, and folks STILL can't seem to find the appropriate "search" feature. :o But even for those who CAN, lumping EVERYTHING together IS more cumbersome than convenient.
My http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-forum/2c.gif worth, in case anyone's keeping count. :o

Sense we’re making requests, can we have a place to put all the mosin people? :)

Can we a bolt, semi, lever, single-shot (falling block, rolling block, and break-action), double-rifle/drilling/etc., and pump sections, too? But what about the most common request, that AR-15s and/or AKs get stuck in their own sub-forum? Do Rem 740s/7400s, BARs (the hunting ones...but what about the old war-fighting ones?), Marlin 60s, and the antique Winchester Self-Loaders go with them into "autoloading rifles?" Or do some of those fit into the Curio and Relic sub-forum that is often called for?
And, of course, if they're rimfires, they need to be in a separate set of sub-forums devoted to those.

Yes, we could make a number of arbitrary calls about what goes with what, but we already spend so much time "directing traffic" (i.e. moving threads to their forum of best fit) that adding more choices just seems counter-productive.
The handgun forum set is already redundant enough to cause confusion.
I'm really not a fan, personally.

I demand equal time, and sub-forums, for lefthanded guns. :cuss:
And I don't want pre-64 mixed in with post-64 Winchesters.
Not to pick on rimfirecentral, because I like it, but each manufacturer could be listed individually. Look at RFC's Other Rimfire Guns section, there're around 3 dozen listings not counting the sub-forums. Actually it works pretty well, but still.

Lefty? I thought crazy people weren't allowed to own guns?

How about us Seniors we want a sub forum, right and left handed and a separate one for the bald guys, pony tails, single, married, twice married, and widowed. No discussion of polymer pistols will be allowed and John Moses Browning will be mentioned in all threads.
I'll end by quoting John BT in post 4
Otoh, I've never seen a need to split it up. I skip the threads I don't want to read.

That's why I want them in their own forums. :) I'm a righty.

Then there should be pre-war and post-war and not just for the guns, the subscribers should be grouped by pre-war and post-war. Go ahead, pick a war, any old war, help yourself, the category is wide open. HELP, I've fallen and I can't get up and besides that I just washed my shoe laces and can't do a thing with them.

I like it the way it is. Rifles covers it all. Too many variations to split up.

If we had enough little ghettos to hide in we'd avoid being exposed to a wider world.
Best if we limited our horizons and stuck to the shallow waters close to shore.

Life would be a lot simpler if the world had just remained FLAT!!!!!!!!!!

Rather than split rifle country I say we reconsolidate handguns so I can post about my new contender and get more views:D
I do think a dedicated RIMFIRE section (handgun and rifle) would be a valuable addition. Because very seldom are rimfires bought and used for the same roles centerfires are.

My point was very simple. Half the threads are abour ar or ak variants.
Just last night, on the first page, thre was 8 threads about ar or ak.
BTW, i think pistols splitted in wheelguns and semi-autos is great.
Just nevermind then...
