Firearms in Song

April 4, 2012, 07:57 PM
All in fun, and inspired by the recent thread about gun movies, I wanted to see what gun songs you all loved, whether the song is all about firearms, or just has a good lyric or two mentioning them.

In respect of THR's copyright policy, it's probably best just to give the name and artist of the song, and post a link to it on youtube if one's available. Maybe a snatch of lyric if you feel it's appropriate.

Mine's going to be Robert Johnson's "32-20 Blues." For those attached to the .38 special, please refer to the other recent thread "Ever had your gun ridiculed?" before listening :neener:

"I send for my baby, and she don't come
All the doctor's in Hot Springs sure can't help her none
If she get's unruly, thinks she don't wan do
Take my 32-20 now and cut her half in two"

The best?

Hank Williams Jr. "A Country Boy Can Survive"

But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife
For 43 dollars my friend lost his life
Id love to spit some beechnut in that dudes eyes
And shoot him with my old 45
Cause a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

April 4, 2012, 08:26 PM
A friend turned me onto Nick Cave when I was much younger. Admittedly not for everyone (or even most people), but I really like his version of "Crow Jane". It's about a woman who gets raped by some miners, picks up some guns and kills the rapists.

"O Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson
Why you close up shop so late?"
"Just fitted out a girl who looked like a bird
Measured .32, .44, .38
I asked that girl which road she was taking
Said she was walking the road of hate

April 4, 2012, 08:28 PM
Kinda ironic that theautobahn pulls out the song talking about roads :neener:

Do they have to present firearms in a positive light? Most don't.

There is a band named after a cartridge: 38 Special.

My first thought was Marty Robbins...."Big Iron" .. Bubba you beat me to it!

Brand new song by the band Deuce called America. You'll have to google the lyrics, they don't fit the language policies on THR. :-)

Actually the song fits the current political turmoil of the world pretty decently as well as being loosely gun related.

The Dirty Heads- Lay me down.

Well this is how it starts Two lovers in the dark
On the run, from the one That they called Sheriff Spark
Six guns by their side and Bullets around the waist
Two shots to the sky signal sign for the chase
The safe was nearly empty and They were nearly free
But were seen by the Good eye of the mean Billie Green
And he screamed at the top of his lungs They're on the run
It's the two wild siders Grab your holsters and your guns

April 4, 2012, 09:42 PM
Well, the crowd cleared away
And I began to pray
And the water fell on the floor
And I'm telling you son

Jimi Hendrix - Hey, Joe

April 4, 2012, 09:48 PM

He lay face down in the desert sand
Clutching his six-gun in his hand
Shot from behind, I thought he was dead
But under his heart was an ounce of lead
But a spark still burned so I used my knife
And late that night I saved the life of Ringo

(Ringo... Ringo . . .)

I nursed him till the danger passed
The days went by, he mended fast
Then from dawn till setting sun
He practiced with that deadly gun
And hour on hour I watched in awe
No human being could match the draw of Ringo

(Ringo... Ringo... )

One day we rode the mountain crest
And I went east and he went west
I took to law and wore a star
While he spread terror near and far
With lead and blood he gained such fame
All throught the West they feared the name of Ringo

(Ringo... Ringo... )

I knew someday I'd face the test
Which one of us would be the best
And sure enough the word came down
That he was holed up in the town
I left the posse out in the street
And I went in alone to meet Ringo

(Ringo... Ringo... )

They said my speed was next to none
But my lightning draw had just begun
When I heard a blast that stung my wrist
The gun went flying from my fist
And I was looking down the bore
Of the deadly .44 of Ringo

(Ringo... Ringo... )

They say that was the only time
That anyone had seen him smile
He slowly lowered his gun and then
He said to me "We're even, friend"
And so at last I understood
That there was still a spark of good in Ringo

(Ringo... Ringo... )

I blocked the path of his retreat
He turned and stepped into the street
A dozen guns spit fire and lead
A moment later, he lay dead
The town began to shout and cheer
Nowhere was there shed a tear for Ringo

(Ringo... Ringo... )

The story spread throughout the land
That I had beaten Ringo's hand
And it was just the years, they say
That made me put my guns away
But on his grave they can't explain
The tarnished star above the name of Ringo

(Ringo... Ringo... )
(Ringo... Ringo... )

Isn't Skynard's "Saturday Night Special" actually about gun control?

Well hand guns are made for killin'
They ain't no good for nothin' else
And if you like to drink your whiskey
You might even shoot yourself
So why don't we dump 'em people
To the bottom of the sea
Before some ole fool come around here
Wanna shoot either you or me

Sounds like gun control to me...

Big Iron has already been mentioned, but I have to say it again because its such a good one. Johnny Cash did a pretty good cover of it as well.

There is one song I learned from dad before I could ride a bike. From WWII, "Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition". Dad was a Ranger medic who wound up military service treating combat shock at Presidio San Francisco and Mare Island. His other song was "coming in on a wing and a prayer"

April 5, 2012, 01:58 AM
Steely Dan's "With a Gun".

In fact, every other (the odd numbered ones) album in their discography has a song relating to guns.

Then of course, there's that Viet Nam classic, 'Napalm Sticks to Kids". It's a real song, Google it.

April 5, 2012, 02:53 AM
Awesome thread, hope it continues on for pages more! My first favorite is still my #1 favorite. "The Devil's Right Hand" written by Steve Earl but the Johnny Cash version is my favorite, if you haven't heard it you should just youtube it right now! My favorite part is that my first gun was a cap n ball colt, and my next was a peacemaker clone :D  but I haven't shot any cheatin miners.

About the time that Daddy left to fight the big war
I saw my first pistol in the general store
In the general store, when I was thirteen
Thought it was the finest thing I ever had seen

So l asked if I could have one when I grew up
Mama dropped a dozen eggs, she really blew up
She really blew up and I didn't understand
Mama said the pistol is the devil's right hand
The devil's right hand, the devil's right hand
Mama said the pistol is the devil's right hand

My very first pistol was a cap and ball Colt
Shoot as fast as lightnin' but it loads a mite slow
Loads a mite slow and i soon found out
It can get you into trouble but it can't get you out
So then I went and bought myself a Colt 45
Called a peacemaker but I never knew why
Never knew why, I didn't understand
Cause Mama said the pistol is the devil's right hand
Never knew why, I didn't understand
Cause Mama said the pistol is the devil's right hand
The devil's right hand, the devil's right hand
Mama said the pistol is the devil's right hand

Well I get into a card game in a company town
Caught a miner cheating I shot the dog down
Shot the dog down, watched the dog fall
Never touched his holster, never had a chance to draw
The trial was in the morning and they drug me out of bed
Asked me how I pleaded, not guilty I said
Not guilty I said, you've got the wrong man
Nothing touched the trigger but the devil's right hand
Not guilty I said, you've got the wrong man
Nothing touched the trigger but the devil's right hand
the devil's right hand, the devil's right hand
Nothing touched the trigger but the devil's right hand

another one some of you might enjoy, is newer, called "The Machinegun Blues" by Social Distortion. The music video is pretty great, It's almost a short movie, as the intro is a few minutes long. It's pretty violent, I should mention that, but it doesn't exactly portray crime as having much potential for a bright future... you should probably youtube it.

April 5, 2012, 03:50 AM
Johnny got up one morning; he went down to the company store
Got him a big box of bullets to fit into his .44
The store man said, "son, are you gonna work? you know you owe me too much to stop."
John said, "i got a little workin to do but I aint goin by your clock."

People said john was a slacker, cause he wouldnt fight in their war
A man wasnt much if he wouldnt fight back in 1940 and 4
The doctor said john was just too sick to go, but the people said that he was a coward
And one of the men makin fun of him was a fellow named milton howard

Milton was down at the cold spring, a-drinkin from a mason jar
He said, "john, you better get yourself to work or youre gonna fool around til you get fired."
John blew the dust from his old .44, put two holes in miltons head
When johnny walked off to get some more shootin done, that ol cold spring was a-runnin red

Next guy he met was a stigall boy, and the boy had a hammer in his hand
John said "son, you shouldve built yourself a box, cause youre a headed for the promised land."
Stigall fell down to his knees to pray, and he cried "lord, johnny please dont shoot!"
Before he got halfway to saying "amen", well old johnny shot him out of his boots

Choctaw Bingo by James McMurtry.
Bought a SKS rifle and a couple of case of that steel core ammo.

"...with them Bear-Dan (Berdan) primers from some East Bloc nation that no longer needs 'em...

And a Desert Eagle that's one great big ol' pistol, I mean fifty caliber made by bad-a** Hebrews

And some surplus tracers for that Ol' BAR..."

That passage made this one of my favorite songs of all time.

BTW, it was part of the "Beer for my horses" soundtrack - a decent movie, made better with good performances by Toby Keith and Tom Skerritt, and an amusing couple of scenes with Ted Nugent.

Utah Carrol

In a faroff western country
where the friends are few and dear
Where the cattle roam in thousands,
and the skies are always clear;
We were rounding up one morning,
and the work was nearly done,
When the cattle all stampeded,
in a wild and maddened run.

And the boss's little daughter was holding on the side;
She tried to turn the cattle, '
twas a wild and dangerous ride.
Now, the boss's little daughter
rode the best horse on the ground,
But he stumbled in a dog hole,
and threw her to the ground.

Beneath that lass's saddle,
early on the fatal morn,
I'd placed a scarlet blanket,
a mistake i'll always mourn.
When the cattle saw that blanket,
it broke their maddened brain;
They bore down on the lassie,
and death rose by their gain.

The cattle thundered toward her,
and she surely would have died,
But a cowhand spurred his cowhorse
like lightning to her side.
He hung down from the saddle,
and snatched her from the ground,
But his cinch hook broke beneath him,
and again it hurled them down.

From the dust sprang Utah Carroll,
with that blanket wavin' gay,
He led off at an angle,
and the cattle came his way.
This task of his accomplished,
the child safe on that side,
He turned to face the cattle,
that wild and maddened tide.

His pistol flashed like lightnin',
it thundered loud and clear;
He failed to turn the cattle,
but he dropped the leadin' steer.
A thousand hooves a-poundin'
and a thousand shinin' horns
Knocked out the life from Utah,
bravest hero ever born.

So in that faroff western country,
where friends are few and dear,
Stands a humble little tombstone,
'neath skies that're always clear.
And the boss's little daughter goes often to the grave
Of the man who died so bravely to save her life that day.

April 5, 2012, 07:33 AM
Toby Keith has a good one. "Bullets in the gun."

She grabbed my 44
I grabbed the money in the sack
She kissed me for the last time
And we headed out the back

Every gun was on us
And every heartbeat poundin'
There's only one thing left to do
When they got you all surrounded

She fired that old pistol
But we didn't stand a prayer
Money hit the gravel
Bullets filled the air, yeah

Never see it comin'
It just hits you by surprise
It's that cold place in your soul
And that fire in her eyes

I’m one of those weirdo’s who like just about everything Bob Dylan has done. Here’s some of his relevant songs, and there's probably a couple I left out.

Bob Dylan’s Blues:
Well look a here buddy, you wanna be like me
Pull out your six-shooter and rob every bank you can see
Tell the Judge I said it was alright, yeah

Masters of War:
Come you masters of war
You that build the big guns
You that build the death planes
You that build all the bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know I can see through your masks

From a Buick 6
She don’t make me nervous, she don’t talk to much
She walk like Bo Diddley and she don’t need no crutch
She keeps that .410 all loaded with lead
Well if I go down dyin’, you know she’s bound to put a blanket on my bed

Ballad of Hollis Brown:
Way out in the wilderness a cold coyote calls
Your eyes fix on the shotgun that’s a hangin on the wall
Your brain is a bleedin and your legs can’t seem to stand,
Your eyes fix on the shotgun that your holdin in your hand
There’s seven breeze’s blowing all around the cabin door
Seven shots ring out like the ocean’s pounding roar

With God on Our Side:
The Spanish-American war had its day
And the Civil War too was soon laid away
And the names of the hero’s I was made to memorize
With guns in their hands and God on their side

It’s Alright, Ma (I’m Only Bleeding)
Disillusioned words like bullets bark
As human gods aim for their mark
Make everything from toy guns that spark
To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark
It’s easy to see without looking too far
That not much is really sacred

You Ain’t Going Nowhere
Buy me a ring and a gun that sings
A flute that toots and a bee that stings
A sky that cries and a bird that flies
A fish that walks and a dog that talks

Romance in Durango
Was it me that shot him down in the Cantena?
Was it my hand that held the gun?
Come let us fly my Magdalena
The dogs are barking and whats done is done

Quick Magdalena, take my gun
Up in the hills, that flash of light
Aim well, my little one
We may not make it through the night

Pistol shots rang out in the barroom night
Enter Patty Valentine from the end of the hall
She sees the bartender in a pool of blood
Cries out, “My God they’ve killed them all”

Billy 1
There’s guns across the river, aiming at you
Lawman on your trail, tryin to catch you
Bounty hunters too their tryin to catch ya
Billy they don’t want you to be so free

Baby Please Stop Crying
You’ve been down to the bottom with a bad man babe, but you’re back where you belong
Go get me my pistol babe, Honey I can’t tell right from wrong

Knockin’ on Heavens Door
Mama put my guns in the ground
I can’t shoot them anymore
That long black cloud is coming down
Feel like I’m knockin on heaven’s door

"45" by Shinedown which includes the lyrics "Staring down the barrel of a .45" though the singer claims the lyric is an allegory

The song "Once" by Pearl Jam, about a deranged man stalking and murdering prostitutes, references a "16 gauge buried under my clothes" which I always found curious that Eddie Vedder would mention such an obscure shotgun caliber instead of 12 gauge, especially since he is such a huge anti

The song "Santeria" by Sublime mentions that "Daddy's got a new .45" and intends to shove it down Sancho's throat (Sanch must be calling on the protagonist's lady friend and the protagonist intends to rectify the situation)

Two of my favorites:

Mark Chesnutt "Bubba Shot the Jukebox" (

We were all down at Margie's bar,
Tellin' stories if we had one.
Someone fired the ol' jukebox up.
The song, it sure was a sad one.
A teardrop rolled down Bubba's nose
From the pain the song was inflictin'.
And all at once he jumped to his feet,
Just like somebody kicked him.

Bubba shot the jukebox last night.
Said it played a sad song that made him cry.
Went to his truck and got a .45
Bubba shot the jukebox last night.

Now, Bubba ain't never been accused
Of bein' mentally stable.
So we did not draw an easy breath,
'Til he laid that Colt on the table.
He hung his head until the cops showed up.
They dragged him right out of Margie's.
And told him, "Don't you play dumb with us, son.
You know damn well what the charge is".

Bubba shot the jukebox last night.
Said it played a sad song that made him cry.
Went to his truck and got a .45
Well, he shot the jukebox last night.

Well, the sheriff arrived with his bathrobe on.
The confrontation was a tense one.
He shook his head and said, "Bubba, boy,
Now, you was always a dense one".
Now, reckless discharge of a gun.
That's what the officers are claimin'.
Bubba hollered out, "Reckless hell!
I hit just where I was aimin."

Bubba shot the jukebox last night.
Said it played a sad song that made him cry.
Went to his truck and got a .45
Well, he shot the jukebox.
Stopped it with one shot.
Bubba shot the jukebox last night.

Well, he could not tell right from wrong
Through the teardrops in his eyes.
Beyond a shadow of a doubt,
It was a justifiable homicide.

Bubba shot the jukebox.
Stopped it with one shot.
Bubba shot the jukebox last night.

Ainít it son?
Hey y'all run along and have some fun
I'll see you when you get back

I'm a man who's goin' to Hell with Heaven's blessin'
The judge said I'm not fit to live with men
They're buildin' me a gallows in the courtyard
To make sure I don't pass this way again

My first taste of killin' was at Vicksburg
I must have shot me a hundred men
I learned to make my livin' with a six-gun
I'm an outlaw now but I was a hero then

Lord if I had only known the misery
That glory's somethin' not worth killin' for
I wish now I had never touched the handle
Of a hair-trigger Colt .44

I was a hunted desperado
A wanted man with a price on my head
I thought that I could steal a taste of freedom
I got me a hangman's noose instead

Lord if I had only known the misery
That glory's somethin' not worth killin' for
I wish now I had never touched the handle
Of a hair-trigger Colt .44

Undertaker write on my tombstone
A killer finally killed and nothin' more
I wouldn't be here if it hadn't been for Providence
And that hair-trigger Colt .44

Lord if I had only known the misery
That glory's somethin' not worth killin' for
I wish now I had never touched the handle
Of a hair-trigger Colt .44

Lord if I had only known the misery
That glory's somethin' not worth killin' for
I wish now I had never touched the handle
Of a hair-trigger Colt .44

It';s only a slight mention, but

Carmelita, by Warren Zevon. Only his version didn't mention any guns ("Well I pawned my Smith Corona, and I went to meet my man"). Later, when covered by Linda Ronstadt, she sang "Well I pawned my Smith and Wesson, and I went to meet my man".

Big Iron
Marty Robbins

(It was early in the morning when he rode into the town
He came riding from the south side, slowly lookin' all around
"He's an outlaw loose and runnin'", came a whisper from each lip
"And he's here to do some business with a big iron on his hip,
big iron on his hip"

In this town there lived an outlaw by the name of Texas Red
Many men had tried to take him and that many men were dead
He was vicious and a killer, though a youth of twenty four
And the notches on his pistol numbered one and nineteen more)

Not taking sides in the Irish/British/Ulster conflict, but the Republicans love to sing a tribute to the AR-15/AR-180 series:

My Little Armalite

"And it's up in Ballymurphy, that's where I long to be,
Lying in the dark with a Provo company,
A comrade on me left and another on me right
And a clip of ammunition for my little Armalite."

It might make you laugh because his most famous song is about his appreciation of women with large posteriors, but Sir Mixalot showed an impressive knowledge of firearms in his songs, mentioning obscure models like the Sterling Mk 6 along with the HK91, Mini 14, Leupold scopes, flash suppressors, etc. Plus this gem:

"I don't believe in gun control,
The theory is proven.
Give a criminal a gun
and your public is losin'."

Pistols and Rifles by Fred Eaglesmith
Grandpa sits by the back door
And he can't see anymore
He lost his sight in '64
You can lead him like a horse to water
But in the evening when the shadows get long
I sit and I play him my favourite songs
He listens for a while but it doesn't take long
And he's a'hollerin'
He says play me a song about rifles and pistols,
Winchesters, Smiths & Wessons, 45s and Enfields,
Saddle 'em up and ride 'em down
There's a darkness out on the edge of town
Preacher at the grave site with the bible
Play me a song 'bout pistols and rifles

Mark Knopfler - Cleaning My Gun

I keep a weather eye on the horizon, my back to the wall
I like to know who's coming through the door, that's all
It's the old army training kicking in
I'm not complaining, it's the world we live in

Blarney and Malarkey, they're a devious firm
They'll take you to the cleaners or let you burn
The help is breaking dishes in the kitchen - thanks a lot
We hired the worst dishwasher this place ever got
Come in below the radar, they want to spoil our fun
In the meantime I'm cleaning my gun

Remember it got so cold ice froze up the tank
We lit a fire beneath her just so she would crank
I keep a weather eye on the horizon, tap the storm glass now and then
I've got a case of Old Damnation for when you get here, my friend
We can have ourselves a party before they come
In the meantime I'm cleaning my gun

We had women and a mirror ball, we had a DJ
used to eat pretty much all that came his way
Ever since the goons came in and took apart the place
I keep a tire iron in the corner, just in case

I gave you a magic bullet on a little chain
to keep you safe from the chilly winds and out of the rain
We're gonna might need bullets should we get stuck
Any which way, we're going to need a little luck
You can still get gas in Heaven, and a drink in Kingdom Come
In the meantime I'm cleaning my gun

Robert Earl Keene - The Road Goes on Forever, and the Party Never Ends

The Cubans grabbed the goodies and Sonny grabbed the Jack
He broke a bathroom window and climbed on out the back
Sherry drove the pickup through the alley on the side
Where a lawman tackled Sonny and was reading him his rights
She stepped into the alley with a single shot .410
The road goes on forever and the party never ends

Some good threads never die--they just keep coming back to intrigue you.

I have been thinking a bit about the Marty Robbin's song "Mr. Shorty", in particular the gun he carried. I have seen all sorts of speculation.

The verse in the song on the lyric sites states that:

"I hadn't noticed but there on his hip was a short-barreled BASS 44."

I have recently been looking at some cap-and-ball revolver replicas to add to my collection. While doing this, it occurred to me that perhaps the lyric should read:

"I hadn't noticed, but there on his hip was a short-barreled BRASS 44."

Remington Model 1858 revolvers were made with brass frames during the Civil War (and the 1858 stayed in production until 1873), and it would not be unusual for a drifter to be carrying one of these on the Frontier after the war. After all, the big cattle drives started taking place in the late 1860's, well before cartridge guns were the primary firearms.

September 21, 2012, 01:56 AM

This tune is pretty dark. It's a little hard to follow the meaning the first time through, but it's effective. I think I listened to it on the CD a lot of times when it first came out before I understood who the 'old friend' was at each stage of the song.

Guns of Brixton The Clash

When they kick out your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun

When the law break in
How you gonna go?
Shot down on the pavement
Or waiting in death row

You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh, Guns of Brixton

The money feels good
And your life you like it well
But surely your time will come
As in heaven, as in hell

You see, he feels like Ivan
BORN under the Brixton sun
His game is called survivin'
At the end of the harder they come

You know it means no mercy
They caught him with a gun
No need for the Black Maria
Goodbye to the Brixton sun

You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh-the guns of Brixton

When they kick out your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun

You can crush us
You can bruise us
And even shoot us
But oh- the guns of Brixton

Shot down on the pavement
Waiting in death row
His game was survivin'
As in heaven as in hell

You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh, the guns of Brixton
Oh, the guns of Brixton
Oh, the guns of Brixton
Oh, the guns of Brixton
Oh, the guns of Brixton

"Early one morning
With time to kill
I borrowed Jebb`s rifle
And sat on a hill
I saw a lone rider
Crossing the plain
I drew a bead on him
To practice my aim

My brother`s rifle
Went of in my hand
A shot rang out
Across the land
The horse, he kept running
The rider was dead
I hung my head
I hung my head"

If I may humbly add a song:

AC/DC Big Gun

Riot on the radio
Pictures on the TV
Invader man take what he can
Shootout on the silver screen
Sticking 'em up and knocking 'em down
Living out a fantasy
There's a bad man cruising around
In a big black limousine
Don't let it be wrong
Don't let it be right
Get in his way
You're dead in his sights

Big gun
Big gun number one
Big gun
Big gun kick the hell out of you

Terminators, Uzi makers
Shootin' up Hollywood
Snakes alive with a .45
Setting off and doing no good
If you ain't wise they'll cannibalise
Tear flesh off you
Classified lady killers
Prayin' in the human zoo
They saddle you up
And take you to town
Better look out
When he come around

(Show down)

Big gun, got a hot one
Big gun, got a number one
Big gun, loaded and cocked
Big gun, hot hot hot
Got big gun, ready or not
Big gun, give it, give it a shot

Terminator, Uzi makers
Regulators, gonna get you later

Big gun kick the hell out of you

+1 to fxhummel1 on Youtube! I love that guy!!
Youtube: fxhummel1's Channel (
fxhummel1 - Afraid Of Firearms (Dont know what tune this is to)
"Cause theyre afraid of firearms, thats because they're uninformed, they know they go BANG BANG BANG"

fxhummel1 - The Range Idiot Song (Don't Shoot) (To the tune of "Dont Speak" by No Doubt)
"You say to me 'Chill its empty'
your lack of safety makes me want to scream!
Dont shoot, I know just where you're aiming
and can't you hear me praying?
Dont shoot me cause it hurts!"

fxhummel1 - The Gun Budget Song (To the tune of "Bullet with butterfly wings" by Smashing Pumpkins)
"Despite all I save, I still can't afford an HK"

Big Iron is a good one, although I got burned out on that one after playing Fallout.

Johnny Horton - Battle of New Orleans
"We fired our cannon till the barrel melted down
then we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round
we filled his head with cannon balls and powdered his behind
and when we touched the powder off the gator lost his mind!"

Sir Mix-A-Lot - No Holds Barred
Youtube Link (
"Hypothetical situation
Gun control starts sweepin the nation
Now you got a bunch of unarmed innocent victims
Gettin ****ED by the system
Sittin at home with a butter knife, huh
Any fool could rape your wife
So what's up when the criminals can't be stopped?
The only one with guns are the COPS
But it's hard for a brother to trust police
Huh, so the **** don't cease
So I go downtown to buy a hot gun
I hated criminals, and now I'm one
Because I bought a gat to protect my house
The cops wanna bust me out?
So it's illegal to protect yourself?
Hell, you either get killed, or you in jail
So when you vote
You better think about what I just wrote
And **** writin a note to yo' Congressman!
You got the fool hired
Now help get the fool fired
A scary scenario
And I put it in your stereo
So when a fool tries to run up on my car
R.I.P., no holds barred"

atmosphere - always coming back home to you
"All of a sudden I'm in front of some man
No he's a youngin but he's got a gun in his hand
He looks 15, he looks frantic, no? he looks afraid
immediately apprehensive til I heard him say,
'do you want this? its not mine i promise
I found it on my block in between a couple garages
didnt wanna leave it for a child to stumble over
I dont even know how to hold it!'
It was a .38, the poor mans machete
held it in my hands thinkin damn man its heavier than expected
wedged it behind my belt buckle
knowin that its evil. even thought that I could smell trouble
the extra strength felt weak
but over there on the corner saw what I needed and proceeded to cross the street
put the heat in a mailbox to lose it
figured that the post office knows whats best to do with it"
