Who will liberate Chicago's residents?
In the news lately, we have heard much of oppressed people in need of liberation from tyrannical one-party rule. In this place of despotism, gunfire routinely rings out in residential areas, claiming the innocent. A massive public educational system bleeds the community dry with ever-larger taxes, yet it remains an abject failure condemning another generation to second-class status.

Powerful, marauding, heavily armed gangs are free to control their turf while terrorizing good and decent people who must live and sometimes die in the misery these "warlords" create while authorities simply look the other way.

This is a place where hard-working, weary men and women must brave extreme weather, and long and sometimes erratic and dangerous commutes to work so corrupt officials can live off their backbreaking labors by adding ever-increasing taxes and fees to the very necessities of life including food, heat and telephone service.

This place of despotic rule is not Iraq or Afghanistan where Americans are fighting to bring democracy to long-oppressed people - this place of suffering and corruption is right here in Chicago.

The recent revelations about a $40 million waste of taxpayers' money on self-serving officials and reputed crime organizations should come as no surprise to Chicagoans who are well-aware that in Chicago you cannot fight city hall, but you can buy it.

The current administration is rotten to the core. Honorable public servants in light of their abuse of the people they are supposed to serve would resign in shame. But clearly in the Chicago city hall cadre there is no honor - or shame.

So we are left to wonder; while the attention of the nation is focused on liberating people in far countries - who indeed will "liberate" the long-suffering people of Chicago from their "government."

Only the Chicago voters have the ability to oust the Daley gang. Doesn't look like its going to happen any time soon. Not only do they control Chicago, they have gained even more control over the rest of us poor souls living in other parts of the state.
Chicago people generally accept the corruption and scandal as normal and many are not unhappy with the way Daley runs the city.

An independent federal prosecutor....barring that, military force. The machine controls things in Chicago the same way the Ba'ath Party controlled Iraq. I'm not sure the voters would stand a chance against the out and out fraud that goes on. Let's not forget, it was a Daley who was selected by the Gore campaign to try to win Florida after the results didn't come out the way they wanted. The system itself is the problem there. I'm sure that there is someone waiting in the wings to take over when hizzonor da mayor finally kicks the bucket.

If the justice department was really interested in making the US a better place, they would be death on political corruption at all levels. Chicago would be a good place to start.

good luck getting daley(the second!) and his cronies out of power. it would take a whole change of attitude and that is not likely to happen in a city where the dead vote in most elections. if that sounds stupid you have not lived there. we escaped after 49 years and feel much safer where we are responsible(legally) for our own safety. too bad it is all filled up down here or I would invite you to come on down. again, good luck and favor center.

Vote with your freakin' feet!

This is the best solution for people who want to be free. I think this county
would be much freer if people didn't concentrat in the big citys like they do now.
THe higher the population desity the more regluations they are.

If Chikago fell off into the lake, like some folks want to see Kaliforny drift into the Pacific....

I waged a one man resistance campaign from '92 to '95. I slipped out of Mordor when the orcs were not looking.:D

The solution: the rule of law. Federal enforcement of ongoing criminal and civil rights violations. We need to do what we had to do in the South, stop the oppression by bigoted, corrupt thugs.

Not counting on that though.:(

If the residents of Chicago are happy with the statis quo fine. If Mayor Daley decides to annex my place in another state its over. I'm not going to waste my resoruces fighting there when my own state needs a severe tune up.
