I've got this barrel...

I was going through my parts box looking for spare 1860 Army barrels for my guns. I'm going to modify them to handle conicals and paper cartridges properly.

Anyway, one 1860 Army barrel I pulled out has me scratching my head. It has no manufacturer's mark on it. No Italian proof house marks, no Italian date code. All it says is "- ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA - " on top of the barrel.

My assumption was that this barrel was for a second generation 1860 Colt, but I thought Colt used Uberti or Army San Marcos parts to build the 2nd gen cap and ball guns.

I have 1860s made by Uberti, Pietta and Armi San Marcos, but this barrel fits none of them. The arbor hole on the barrel is to narrow to accept the arbor from any of those guns.

I got a bunch of loose barrels from a gun shop that was going out of business about seven years ago, and this was one of them.

Any idea what manufacturer made this?

2nd Gens are compatible with Ubertis. I'm not sure about Signature series barrels though. Is it polished to a mirror bright blue finish? If so, It's probably a Sig Series. Then again, it could be one of Dixie's oddball parts.

In the early 1960's quite a few colt knock offs were made in Belgium. I believe by a company named Centauer. Supposedly on the same machinery used to make Colts at some time in the past.

There is a 1967 ad for the Centauer posted at Black Powder Smoke forums. under the Old Catalogues section.

Belgian Colts did not have the Colt address on the barrel. Could this be an original Colt barrel? Does it have Gain Twist rifling?
