This pistol is a STAR design. If you will look closely you will see the hammer is moved off the sear amd locked back by application of the safety. This is a far better design than the 1911/1911A1 safety.

I'll pass it on. Oddly enough, he carries without a round in the chamber nonetheless.

I have carried the predecessor of the IJ Pony, the Star DK, cocked-and-locked wihtout any problems. Just remember that, like a pre-Series 80 Colt, it has no firing pin safety: if dropped on its muzzle with sufficient force, it can discharge the chambered round. Properly handled and holstered, I wouldn't worry about it, but I wouldn't be carrying Mexican style.
