It referred to a number of academic studies on the effectiveness of various types of bullets, as well as interviews with police officers and others who had been involved in multiple shootings.

I can't seem to turn it up.

The FBI did studies on this after the 1986 Miami shootout, that culminated in them choosing the 40 S&W as their preferred cartridge.

Many other studies have been done, but this is the only one I know of that somewhat meets your description.

I happened to find this one a while ago and it's quite interesting. Long read but interesting. It's taken from some thread but basically only shows a pathologist's responses.
