What's your Summer Carry weapon?

I'm just trying to get an idea of what's your summer CCW. It seems that with popularity of the smaller guns these days everybody's shifting toward pocket carry. Are there still a few holdouts that still carry something other than the pocket rockets?

Granted this is my first year carrying, or at least I am coming up on my anniversary. During that year I haven't noticed the bad guys getting any smaller during the warmer months so my weapon hasn't changed.

Call me crazy and I'm not trying to open a can of worms but I would be concerned about being able to get a firm grip on a smaller pistol when sweaty and excited. I'll stick to the CABO theory, Carry A Big One or at least reasonably big.

Ruger LCP, with Hogue Handall Hybrid rubber grip sleeve, loaded with a Buffalo Bore 90-grain +P hollow point in the chamber, and 6 FMJ rounds in the magazine with Ruger floor plate extension, in a Galco pocket holster. Kel Tec PF-9, IWB. It carries comfortably, and conceals very well.

I plan on getting a CW9, CM9, or PPS for my next gun. When I do, I'll probably switch to carrying the new one. My PF-9 (and many others, apparently) doesn't like to eat just anything. Wrong diet = FTE. That bugs me.

I don't change for the season, just the occasion.

The ones that get carried-concealed, year-round:

S&W 637 2-1/2" bbl in a Desantis Nemesis for regular-carry on the homestead / casual knocking-about. ...or...

S&W 5904 in a Crossbreed Supertuck out in the paved world. I have a 3913 and 908 that fit the same holster, but my 5904s really don't feel much "bigger" carried IWB. ...To me anyway.

I also will default to a LCP in nice leather wallet holster if the situation demands lightweight dress slacks, button-down shirt, and no jacket.

I actually got a bigger gun. Went from a 4" Sigma to a 4.25" 1911. Not much bigger, but I. Think the grip is longer. It is a lot slimmer, though
I refer to my carry method as "concealed" carry. Meaning there's a garment over my gun, and I mostly conceal, but other times it's quite obvious I have a gun on my hip.

Previously a Kahr cw9 OWB that disappeared nicely. I lost my gut over the winter so now it is a glock 26 IWB in a theiss holster or appendix carry. Instead of getting +2 shorts, the shooter went -2. :) Unfortunately my old +2 shorts are hopelessly too large.

Thanks! It does. My goal was to get healthier, but the side benefits were great...a boost in confidence, overall feeling better, more energy AND room in my waistband for something I'm more comfortable shooting. My +2 pants were getting more and more fitting without a gun in my waistband so I had to do something. ;)

Smith and Wesson M&P9. Same as winter. Changing what gun you carry increases your response time when you need to react to a threat. If you do carry multiple guns, at least make sure the manual of arms is exactly the same between them. That quarter of a second your mind wastes deciding if there's a safety you need to turn off or not could be your last.

All my serious options are point and shoot, I agree with minimizing the amount of guns one carrys for concealed personal defense and would add that the way it is carried is probably as if not more critical but reality for me puts about 4 guns on my list.
P3AT, P11, anyone of a number of J frame, or 9 or 40 Glock.
Size, weight, and dress are the deciding factors.

I used to carry two different pistols due to the seasonal temperatures. Now I carry the same pistol year-round in a tuckable holster.

I have no problems concealing my M&P40c even on the hottest of days, I just have to pick the right clothing. I'll also point out that I always have my shirt tucked in, no t-shirts hanging down to my knees for me (that look might work for someone in their teens but not in their 30's)

So, my summer carry is the M&P40c just as my winter carry. However, I will say that on the colder months, I still prefer an OWB belt holster under a jacket.

I can't, not 24/7 and never without a tuckable which I don't really like. Wind gets under the T shirt at 70 mph and blows it up over the gun, not good when traffic around is getting flashed by your handgun. I pocket carry. We don't really have a "winter". We have a summer and then a HOT season. I carry my Kel Tec P11 or my Taurus 85SSUL in a pocket where ever I go, never without it except in the shower. A NAA .22 mini and a small can of pepper spray ride shotgun in my off side pocket, the gun in its folding holster/grip.

I don't like IWB, anyway. I'm 6 ft and 215 with "love handles".

Right now I'm partial to my early 60's chief's special set up like a fitz special and my 101 year old colt 1903 hammerless. My carry gun changes around a lot though; all my proven reliable guns get some carry time except for the super-collectible ones.

MCgunner,

If I rode a motorcycle I reckon I'd pocket carry too! But I get my dose of sun & wind in a convertible, and open carry is legal here, if not exactly advisable in certain jurisdictions that don't believe state preemption applies to them. I don't do it but it keeps me legal if I inadvertently expose my weapon. And I know what you mean about the seasons down your way, used to live there myself. Up here we have winter and summer and not a whole lot in between.

I guess if I were going to change guns with the season, I'd probably go to a pocket gun in winter - I carry my .45 in a tuckable holster, but it's not the easiest thing to access when tucked under a shirt or two with a big coat over the whole thing. But I've never found a pocket gun that quite suited me, so I stick with the 1911.

I don't do it but it keeps me legal if I inadvertently expose my weapon.

We had open carry up on the agenda, but it fell between the cracks. This is exactly why I was hoping it'd pass, so that if i were carrying, usually OWB as I really don't like IWB, and the gun flashed, I'd not have anything to worry about. But, it didn't go through, bucha ying yang politicians in Austin with their heads where the sun don't shine.

What with the price of gas, I ride the bikes even more, lately. Only when the wife goes along to I take a cage. I haven't gotten her into the "biker mama" thing, be married one year tomorrow, April 13... FRIDAY the 13th no less. I warned her about that, but she said she wasn't superstitious. Neither am I, but I mean, it coulda waited a day, ROFL!

This is why they make so many models of firearms. Everyone has a different requirement and personal take on CCW. Me, I wanna be armed when I have pants on and just find pocket carry the easiest way to do that with MY lifestyle and weather conditions. Anyone reading this thread to get ideas on what to carry summer or winter should understand this. I've got TWO BOXES of carry leather that didn't work out. I'm not the only one, either. It's common. When I do carry a big gun, I find a Bulldog fanny pack the easiest way and I really don't like THAT, either. 33 ounces of handgun gets heavy in that thing after a day of wear. But, that's the main gripe I have of it and the fact that it's a little sissy looking. But, I can carry a medium frame .357 or my Ruger KP90DC .45 in that rig with reasonable comfort and it's easier to get at seated in a car than any other method I've tried. I wear it sorta crossdraw, to the left of center. It's like open carry, but concealed.

One thing I tried that's pretty much worthless, especially seated, is "Thunderwear". I don't even know where that thing went, but I use it only to carry extra cash on a trip. I don't carry a gun in it. I eliminated it first time I tried it, sucked. Yeah, it's comfy and discrete, but you can't get at the thing inside 10 minutes and seated, well, forget it....

I carry my LCP every day all year. It's not a very sexy beast. It's not something that I ENJOY shooting. It doesn't give me the ultimate warm-fuzzies regarding caliber.

But, I shoot it well. It packs better than any other gun I own. It allows me to follow rule number one of being in a gun-fight. In short, if I am going somewhere where firearms are permitted to be carried, the LCP tags along.

In the fall/winter I just add a gun to go along with it. My work attire in the summer prohibits me from carrying anything bigger than a pocket pistol.

Well, I finally upgraded from this: "Ruger LCP, with Hogue Handall Hybrid rubber grip sleeve, loaded with a Buffalo Bore 90-grain +P hollow point in the chamber, and 6 FMJ rounds in the magazine with Ruger floor plate extension, in a Galco pocket holster."

To this: Kahr CM9, with Hogue Handall Jr. rubber grip sleeve, loaded with 6+1 rounds of Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 124-grain +P ammo, in a pocket holster.

I carried the LCP pretty much exclusively for almost 3 years, but decided I could put up with slightly more size and weight in my summer cargo shorts pocket if it meant upgrading from .380 to 9mm. The Kahr is pushing the envelope of comfortable pocket carry for me, and I'll probably switch back to the LCP occasionally if the pocket requires it.

anything really, depends on how I am dressed.

When really hot here in new mexico, loose pants riding high and correct fitting polo shirt riding out allows me to conceal about anything I own but the mosin.

I usually carry a .40 S&W Browning Hi Power, even on hot days. I tend to wear untucked polo shirts or Hawaiian shirts, and the BHP conceals quite well under them. For those few occasions when I need something smaller, I have a Remington Model 51 that's proven completely reliable with 90 gr. Speer Gold Dot JHPs. The tiny, tiny sights on it are pretty useless, but it's a gun for bad breath distance anyway, so I don't think it will be much of a handicap.

Like some of the other posters here, I'm just not comfortable with pocket carry. I doubt my ability to deploy a gun with such a tiny grip fast enough from a pocket, and then control it well enough when adrenaline is surging through my body and all my fine motor skills are gone. Pants that fit a bit more snugly, or which have cross pockets (like jeans) instead of side pockets make this worse. Sure, with enough practice I could doubtless learn to do it. But I can do it better with a full size gun like the Hi Power (and even the Remington has a grip big enough for all three fingers -- it conceals so well because it's the flattest gun I've ever seen), and I've never had a problem with concealment with these two guns, especially the Remington. I don't think I've ever owned clothes I couldn't make the Remington disappear under. Consequently, I see no need to switch to pocket carry.

My summer carry is the same as my winter carry. In the past it has been my M&P9c. I usually just switch to the flush fitting mag under a t-shirt. Now I'm migrating towards my S&W 3913. Its is one sweet shooting pistol. For occasions, like church service, where i prefer deeper concealment I pocket carry my Bodyguard 380. Believe it or not I shoot it as well as my bigger guns even at distance albeit a little slower due to the DAO trigger.

I like a G19 for summer. Summer is often when people are at their craziest, and I'd rather have a lot of 9mm than a few .380 or .38.

.357 is nice in the woods year round.

I’m not a proponent of miniatures and subcompacts thus full size with no difference to the season.

S&W 642 IWB with a Kel-Tec P3AT in a pocket or also IWB for a BUG.
Same here for the S&W 642 with Hornady 110 gr FTX+P, but alternate with a Kahr P.380 in a ankle holster. Prefer the 642. Much depends on how hot it is and clothing.

I have been thinking about adding a pocketable 9mm, as I recently got rid of an LCR that used to fit that role.

John Browning was a genius at designing SA pistol ergonomics and point ability, carries are Colt/Para in either 45auto or 38 Super Government; however, it's hard to beat a standard Hi Power with its very slim frame IWB, plus I can use the same Bianchi holster.

For light clothing on the trail, the 38 Super IWB works well as does the 45 auto and Hi Power in town.
