I have loss most of the use of my trigger finger resulting in it being extremely difficult to accurately shoot small handguns. The Bersa looked like a decent "smallish" pistol that had a thicker grip and more forward trigger helping offset my limited range of motion. So I picked up the 9uc. Out the door at about $430.00. Could have saved about $25.00 at a different dealer but I prefer my relationship with the more expensive one.

Fit and Finish: The fit is great. Tight but smooth, easy slide. Mag fits and releases well, everything in perfect order. The finish - well it's just so-so. A few marks in the machining, not perfect by any means - except maybe the barrel (polygonal)- it looks really nice - inside and out. I think the finish on the edges of the blued metal parts will wear easily - remains to be seen. Everything operates smooth and tight - solid feeling.

UC stands for ultra compact - Well It does carry well but "ultra compact" is certainly stretching it a bit. Weight: 23 oz. Length: 6.5” Height: 4.75” Width: 1.45”. It doesn't seem quite as big as the specs indicate when you carry it.

Trigger: Make or break for me on a pistol or long gun - #1 criteria. Gotta say I like it alot! SA - a little take up but smooth easy pull, clean break, short reset. Very nice. DA - after a few pulls - not bad - at first it was stacking a lot towards the end of the pull - almost like a two stage trigger - but that seems to be smoothing out and lighting up with a few dry fires.

Sights: 3-Dot, Interchangeable Sig Sauer type, nice large front sight - back sights are just ok - but together they are very functional. Shoots to point of aim if you cover the target with the front dot.

Features: I'll have to say - packed with features. Ambidextrous safety, slide release and magazine release, poly rifling, no mag safety, deocker/safety, Lifetime service contract, Picatinny rail and loaded chamber indicator. Controls are well placed and operate very naturally and easily/smooth. Slide release operates well without changing your grip as does the mag release.

Accuracy: Better than me! This was the first time I have been able to shoot for months - so a little rust plus a bad trigger finger. After shooting 4 mags to kinda of figure things out - my fifth mag I shot a 4" group at 10 yards to a 6" round target. 13 shots - eleven holes, shot in about 15 to 20 seconds. I was avereraging 6" groups and a flyer here and there when firing a little faster. Nothing to brag about but the gun was certainly not an issue. BTW - I picked up the pistol - wiped off the excess oil with a paper towel, stepped into the range and started firing. A good cleaning may have improved accuracy? When I cleaned it there was a ton of gunk in the barrel due to the heavy oil in the barrell when I fired it. Recoil is very manageable.

Function/reliability: So far so good. Not a single failure of any kind. Operates very smoothly. Mag goes in tight when loaded with 13 but I don't see that as any problem. Mags are tough to load - especially the last few rounds - the springs in the mags seem strong. I shot 100 rounds of S&B fmj and 10 rounds of carbon dxp and 10 rounds of Speer GDHP +p 124gr. All feed and ejected fine. Slide locked back every time.

Conclusion: I like the look of the Bersa although the finish isn't perfect. I am well pleased with the fit, function and operation. Accuracy is very adequate for a relatively small, short barreled pistol. Very nice trigger. Good bang for the buck in my opinion. Can't wait to shoot it some more.

Good report, jbr. My conclusions mirror yours. I have tons of respect for the UC9 and carried mine quite often. It's still one of the only pistols I own that has yet to experience its first malfunction. Only the finish doesn't earn top grade in my book, but it's still functional.

I was also impressed by the quality of barrel... mine also had zero machine marks. The recessed crown is also a nice touch.

I'm not much of a pistol shot, but I could still control the pistol enough to connect with every round at 30 feet while firing at a brisk pace.

I also agree that calling them "ultra compact" is indeed a stretch. They're about the same size as the Cz82, but thicker.

I would not hesitate to recommend a Bersa for CCW or HD, which for me is saying a lot.

so is the poly barrell similar to glocks, where lead is not recommended? Do all bersa’s have the poly barrell

TennJed, the rifling on Bersa's Pro model are polygonal like Glock, so I would guess so. I believe the models that aren't designated as "Pro" use conventional rifling.

I would think this spans the entire Bersa Thunder HC and UC line for 9mm, .40S&W and .45acp.

All my 9mm ammo is coated so i never thought about it - like to know myself just incase i get some lead loads in the future. I quit shooting lead a couple of years ago due to laziness. They make cleaning a little more time consuming. and the fact that s&b shoots fairly clean and is always on sale at midway or cheaper than dirt - so i use it alot for plinking. I'm not sure about the poly barrel, it reads in some materials like a new feature, but Snowdogs explanation may be the real reason - can't say for sure - but i know all the pro series now have poly barrels. Not sure about older ones. My cz is still my favorite 9 but who wouldn't prefer a full size over a compact. The Bersa is the best shooting 9 in it's size that i have found and i have spent considerable time in the last three years looking for an acceptable small 9.

still happy with it? I just ordered one today as a "daily" type gun since my Witness Match is a big girl and won't be out except for rare occassions.
