Took my H&R Buffalo Classic out to the land today. .45-70, Lee mold 500 grain bullet (mine weigh around 476 grains) over 55 grains of Goex FFFg. I couldn't see a couple of bullet holes through the scope. When I drove down to the target this is what I saw:

Yes, I said scope. Right now I'm just working up loads, and my old eyes need all the help I can get while shooting. Later I'll take the scope off and put the iron sights back on.

Edit: 100 yards.

I have always gotten excellent accuracy out of my H&R buffalo classics as well as the short handi rifles in 45/70. Nice shootin!

That's an excellent group!
I like my handi rifles in .204, and .30-06. I like to cast my own bullets, so a .45/70 may be in my future.

Add five more grains. See if that doesn't raise it to the point of aim. (If, of course, you were aiming at THAT card)

Right now 55 is as much as I can load with those long bullets. The rifle has a very shallow throat, if I try to load 60 it moves the bullet out far enough I can't close the action. A local gunsmith can ream it out for me so I can load bullets farther out, still trying to decide if I really want to do that.

I LIKE 55 gr. 2F Goex. low recoil, and super accurate. I use 405 gr. carbine bullets, though.

There are many more .30 cast boolit moulds than for the .45 caliber. Cast boolits for .30 calibers are very accurate and can be pushed at a pretty high velocity. I have several .30 rifles and shoot cast boolits in all of them.
