SharpsDressedMan April 15, 2012, 12:10 PM If you do have, or would someday like to have an identical pair of handguns, what would be your choices? I think I'd like to have a pair of mostly stock looking 1911A1's, perhaps custom guns designed to look like pre-war Government Models, but with modern steel and custom fitting for better accuracy and longevity than original guns, so that I could give them a regular workout, and not worry about excessive wear, etc. What guns would you have?

buck460XVR April 15, 2012, 12:25 PM I really have no desire for a matched set of guns. Really no need to go along with the lack of desire. I did tho, buy a matched pair of limited edition Buckmarks with consecutive serial numbers. Gave each of my sons one of them.
ApacheCoTodd April 15, 2012, 01:09 PM I had a matched, sequential pair of US Arms SAAa for my wife and I and would have them still (loved those firing pins) if an "armorer":fire: hadn't twisted my frame in un-barreling mine.
I've often inadvertently had matched service pistol pairs in that I will still have the last one in the course of upgrading the "keeper".
I currently have two pairs of sequential Kimber Det-1s and will keep the first pair (one's my shooter and the other's "not for eatin', it's just for lookin' through") as a pair forever.
Another pair I want is a duplicate of a photo (wish I still had it) of a GI in the Philippines right after the out break of the war with a brace of 1917s. Boy-howdy if that wasn't one scary lookin', steely-eyed jungle fighter.
bigfatdave April 15, 2012, 02:14 PM my pair of Ruger target pistols and my pair of compact 1911s seems to imply that I'd like a pair of Ruger target pistols and a pair of compact 1911s
Loosedhorse April 15, 2012, 02:51 PM There are several reasons to have pairs. One is if they are collectables; I agree that consecutive serial numbers is a bonus.
Another is if they are discontinued, and you really like them: spare parts will eventually dry up.
And then there's the standard: if your primary carry gun goes in for repair (or G-d forbid, into evidence :uhoh:), it'd be nice to have an exact spare.
Blackstone April 15, 2012, 02:51 PM Think a pair of 1911's would be most symbolic
jfrey April 15, 2012, 04:30 PM I've got a matched pair of Ruger New Vaquero's with sequential serial numbers. Ruger will sell them like that. Took my wife 2 years to get them for me though. I also have a pair of Briley Commander 1911's with consecutive serial numbers. Bought them seperately and they were a great find when I realized what I had.
tekarra April 15, 2012, 08:11 PM I have pairs of Ruger Speed Sixes in 9mm, cZ 75B and cZ 75 Compact.
1858 April 15, 2012, 08:27 PM I have a pair of USFA Rodeos and a pair of Ruger Blackhawks chambered in .45 Colt and both sets have sequential serial numbers. I also have a pair of SIG P225s. I don't have any pairs of 1911s but I have the Special Forces "set" from Ed Brown. I tend to pair a fullsize with a Commander such as the Dan Wesson Valor and V-Bob.

scramasax April 15, 2012, 09:25 PM I've been on a kcik of collecting and shooting "paired" pistols for quite a while. Started out with two Walther P5c SAS pistols I ran into. Continued with S&W 65s the got The triple threat Colt Custom Shop series 70 SS 1911s. Followed that with two Colt railguns, last digits 44/45. Then two Rhorbaugh 9mms. two Chiappa Rhino 5". Don't know where I will go from there. Discussing with an AR mfr. about matching sn. for rifle to pistol. Know of a dealer with 4 cons.# hipowers. He's just a little too greedy. Wasn't a plan just fell into it.
Cheers,
ts
The Lone Haranguer April 15, 2012, 09:44 PM I've never had matched pairs of guns. On occasion, I carried a main and a smaller backup gun. For a matched pair, the first thing that comes to mind is a pair of 1911s, at least one of which would need an ambidextrous thumb safety.
MTD April 15, 2012, 09:52 PM You want a pair of pistols? This is a "pair" of 1911s by Joe Chambers that I have dreamed of each and everyday!

Tipro April 15, 2012, 10:23 PM I got into shooting not all that long ago compared to many people here, so maybe I am more impressionable than others. anyways, at the range one day I see this guy with slicked back hair and a leather jacket with his trophy wife (gf?) at the range and he's showing the rangemaster what guns they're going to shoot. Says to the rangemaster, " but I'm not shooting these today," as he pulls back his jacket and shows 2 of the slickest stainless steel 1911s I've ever seen with these gorgeous grips tucked on both sides of his shoulder harness. I already have a pretty woman, but I do want to be like that guy and get the pretty guns to go with it. As I said, I'm rather impressionable
Girodin April 16, 2012, 09:25 PM For a working gun I don't mind having another glock or the like, two is one, one is none, and all.
Now as a neat novelty I think a pair of something like the following would be rather cool.

10-96 April 16, 2012, 11:08 PM I didn't intentionally start out to have pairs of anything, it just kinda happened. And to be truthful, I never really thought about it til I saw this thread.
But since you asked, it appears I have a pair of S&W 1917's, M1's, Sig P6's, and a pair of Springfield 1911 GI's. Seems there's some other pair I have, dunno, I'll have to go look when I get home.
Rail Driver April 16, 2012, 11:13 PM I don't have a matched pair (I'd love a matched pair of Black Army Colts though).
Right now the closest I have to a matched pair would be my Colt Commander and my RIA FS Tactical (both in .45ACP)
NMGonzo April 16, 2012, 11:39 PM two glock 35
Its like having a set of carbines.
Manson April 17, 2012, 06:39 AM It must be part of my gun sickness. I look at the photo's of 1858's guns and realize each one is a beauty. But the pair is stunning.
KenW. April 17, 2012, 04:32 PM They're not identical matchs, but I do own the following:
XD45c, XD40sc, XD9sc, and an XDM 40 3.8c.
SleazyRider April 17, 2012, 05:28 PM Sure, it's close to the bottom of the food chain, but I love my brace of CZ-82s.

GBExpat April 17, 2012, 06:36 PM I would like to have an excellent-condition pair of Government Model 1911A1s. Heck, I would be happy with a good-condition pair. ;)
I have multiples of several other pistol types and even multiple "1911"s but the closest that I have to an original 1911A1 is a Sistema Colt.
Robbins290 April 17, 2012, 08:50 PM here are my custom pairs. i also have 2 matching nagants and two 1911's. also a pair of phoenix arms hp22's, but i dont mention them alot! lol
bigfatdave April 17, 2012, 09:08 PM A pair of Tokarev-chambered guns with "anarchy" symbols on them?
You'll be getting a knock on the door soon!
bbuddtec April 17, 2012, 10:16 PM Hmm, I'm thinking this pair-thing could really double my collection! Now I just switch to "boy, I'd really like a pair of radoms for my birthday, honey!" :D
...Most excellent idea, Sharps, you are one of the tops here!
PS< you could Ace them all with a PAIR of mudhole 1911's heheheh
Dentite April 17, 2012, 11:52 PM I'd love a pair of 1911s or something a bit more classy but this is my only pair. I didn't really intend on getting a second M57 but the second one was dirt cheap and wasn't functioning until I got a new hammer group for it.

Sergei Mosin April 18, 2012, 12:53 AM I have a pair of M1895 Nagant revolvers, although they were produced at different arsenals.
tekarra April 18, 2012, 08:02 PM Well Dentite, I think those are a fine pair.
Ragnar Danneskjold April 18, 2012, 08:07 PM Not yet, and what I want isn't exactly and identical pair, but I do want a coyote brown M&P9 fullsize to go with my black one.
iLikeOldgunsIlikeNewGuns April 19, 2012, 10:05 PM Just a polite suggestion, might this thread be better off in general handguns? I know I want matched wheels and bottom-feeders!
here are my custom pairs. i also have 2 matching nagants and two 1911's. also a pair of phoenix arms hp22's, but i dont mention them alot! lol
Robbins I remember the thread from you getting them finished, that was fun reading :) BigFatDave, If i recall correctly, he got 'em for recreational use :)
PS: Let's see those 1911s Robbins! :D
I really like the sounds of the OP's ideal matched gunnery (1911s, you probably read it ) :) Only difference is I'd have 'em in polished mirror-like stainsless finish with some ridiculous grips for show, like abalone or mastadon, and somethin better for range like walnut or rubber. I also want a matched pair of Colt SAAs!!! both in .45lc of course.
Closest thing I have at the moment to a matched pair, is a pair of J.P Sauer & Sohn/Hawes SAA clones, with similar serial #s, but I don't think they can be considered matched as one is .22lr and the other is .45lc,
sorry bout crappy photo quality, couldn't decide which is better

Litlman April 22, 2012, 10:01 PM CZ 75 platform. A 75 full size, an 85 combat and a 75 Compact, all high caps fit in each gun. All the same basic fire controls. I would have a double of any of them if available at the right price. I have 2 maks, and would get another if I could and I also have 2 T-series BHP's, love them also.
Shipwreck April 22, 2012, 10:33 PM Mn, why would anyone get pairs of the same gun? I'll never know :D

SharpsDressedMan April 23, 2012, 05:44 PM Rudy at Black Hills Leather makes a double SOB rig similar to the one above. I down't know about practical, but I had a girl tell me that a demonstrated double draw from double shoulder holsters was "hot" one time (yeah, I know.) I never knew drawing guns could be "hot". A double rig like the one above would be an almost identical draw.
iLikeOldgunsIlikeNewGuns April 23, 2012, 08:34 PM If I was going to rock two 1911s on my belt, they'd each be facing the other way, in two IWBs or OWBs at 4:00 and 8:00. I already carry one at 4:00 and comfort is no issue :)

justice06rr April 23, 2012, 10:41 PM I've always wanted to have a matching pair of H&K USP45 tactical.
surjimmy April 23, 2012, 11:38 PM Do they have to be the same pistol? How about a matching pair of custom Austin Behlert's 1911, and a BHP

Dentite April 24, 2012, 12:11 AM surjimmy,
Those are amazing and complement one another very nicely. Two classics tastefully customized.
surjimmy April 25, 2012, 01:22 PM Thanks, I got them from randgfirearms.com been buying from Gary for over 30 years. He has a butt load of custom guns from the old masters. If you don't see what you want, just ask.....SHAMELESS PLUG.:D
mavracer April 25, 2012, 02:14 PM I don't have any "exact" matches but I got a bunch of "peanut butter & jelly" pairs.
Chuck R. April 26, 2012, 07:12 PM I guess I sort of see the utility, but my only exact pair is a couple Walther PPQs:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a5/CFRHunter/Shooting/DSC00084.jpg
I also have 3 Colt SAAs in .45Colt:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a5/CFRHunter/Shooting/DSC00020.jpg
Two Les Baers setup the same, a Concept V and a Stinger:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a5/CFRHunter/X-Mas060937.jpg
Chuck
skt239 April 26, 2012, 07:32 PM I'd like a matched set of 1911's but since space is limited in the safe, I'd probably go with one of these...
http://img.tapatalk.com/425754ed-daaf-de62.jpg
:)
Seriously though, I'd like to have a pair of colt SAA or something along those lines.
MCgunner April 26, 2012, 07:34 PM I wouldn't mind getting another matching Pietta 5.5" '58 Remington. That's a fun, sharp looking gun that shoots lights out.
CAR-AR April 26, 2012, 07:38 PM I have two 2206s but one is a 4 inch and 6 inch. I sold my other 4 inch so I really don't have a pair. :)
