Legislative Update from Olympia 13 February 2004

BILLS PASS HOUSE

CHAMBER CUT-OFF NEXT TUESDAY

PUBLIC HEARING ON RECIPROCITY

House Bills 2473 (prohibiting law enforcement officers from carrying guns in court hearings where they are a party to DV action), 2600 (revising not guilty by insanity plea) and 2701 (firearms restrictions inside FAA security zone of airports) have passed the House and have been assigned for consideration to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
House Bill 2493 (CPL expiration dates) and Senate Bill 6389 (firearms restrictions inside FAA security zone of airports) are still awaiting floor votes in the House and Senate, respectively.

Tuesday, February 17th, is chamber cut-off day. Bills that have not passed their original chamber (House or Senate) are considered dead for the session. The whole process begins over on February 18th, where bills must be heard and pass out of the policy committee in the second chamber (House bills in the Senate, Senate bills from the House).

The weekly forecast of bills being heard in committee for next week does not include any of the gun bills still in play. There MAY be a public hearing on SB 5083 (CPL reciprocity) in the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday, 19 February. As soon as I can confirm the hearing schedule (a minimum 24-hours’ notice is required), I will disseminate a GOAL Alert with details.
