Does anyone have feedback on the zastava M85? I am interested in the 7.62x39. Looks like a neat carbine.

shotgunjoel April 16, 2012, 01:04 PM delete SaxonPig April 16, 2012, 01:14 PM Is this the same as the Iterarms mini? I have one from the 1980s and it is a commercial M98 in about 3/4 scale. Got mine as a barreled action and put on a Ramline glass stock. Damn thing has shot 1/2" groups at 100 yards. Much fun to shoot. http://www.fototime.com/181B78036B00273/standard.jpg Hizzie April 16, 2012, 02:38 PM Pretty sure it is the same as the Remington 799. dirtyjim April 16, 2012, 07:08 PM same as rem 799. i have three mini's, one in 22 hornet one in 223 and one in 7.62x39. the remington stocks are very crude but great american has a nice stock pattern for them. once you clean them up and remove 1/3 of the wood from the stock they make a nice rifle hardluk1 April 16, 2012, 08:04 PM Yep all the same. Good basic commercal mauser actions. fireman 9731 April 16, 2012, 08:10 PM The CZ 527 carbines are amazing. http://www.cz-usa.com/products/view/cz-527-carbine/ Brian Williams April 16, 2012, 08:10 PM They are push feed, not controlled round feed like a true Mauser. But they are good little actions. greyling22 April 16, 2012, 10:26 PM it's a hybrid sako/mauser action. I have the charles daly mini in 223. 1 ragged hole with the right handloads. 1" with most ammo. action was very stiff, the firing pin spring WAY overpowered, and not much in the way of scope handle clearance. very nicely blued. Has an adjustable trigger. Mine's at about 2.? lbs. 4sixteen April 17, 2012, 12:28 AM I have a Remington 799 7.62x39 (the barreled action is a Zastava Mini Mauser). Nice rifle, very good accuracy. Discontinued by Remington a few years ago, getting parts might be a problem. http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r236/storm_rider02/zm85.jpg Old Dog Man April 18, 2012, 12:05 AM Don't like the extractor, if you break one the are not to be found, had to make one for a customer, Pain in butt. Al 4sixteen April 18, 2012, 09:20 AM Had that problem with my rifle (using steel case ammo was the cause, fits tight for some reason in my rifle), the extractor from a certain older SAKO rifle fits. greyling22 April 19, 2012, 12:33 AM looks like EAA sells extractors. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=93866 4sixteen April 19, 2012, 12:48 AM Nope, no longer available. :( greyling22 April 19, 2012, 01:32 AM bummer. I was hoping to keep them in mind as a source of parts. I like the gun, but I learned my lesson with it. No more buying closeout guns, guns with poor customer support/no english support, guns from foreign countries that do not have a historically reliable importer, or guns that fit all 3 categories. DOH! 4sixteen, what sako extractor fits? the mini looks a lot like a vixen. dirtyjim April 19, 2012, 07:33 AM Century is importing them now. http://www.centuryarms.biz/proddetail.asp?prod=RI1975%2DN greyling22 April 19, 2012, 08:50 AM hey cool! hopefully they can keep importing them for more than a couple of years. 4sixteen April 20, 2012, 12:59 AM bummer. DOH! 4sixteen, what sako extractor fits? the mini looks a lot like a vixen. I think the extractor is from a SAKO Vixen, I got a spare so I should be ok. Numrich lists parts for the mini Mauser, but are currently out of stock on many items for this rifle. clance May 26, 2012, 12:54 PM Century is importing them now. http://www.centuryarms.biz/proddetail.asp?prod=RI1975%2DN Thanks for the info on the current US distributor for the Zastava Arms. Been thinking about getting one but couldn't find out who was currently handling them. I would like one to have it customized to be a 2 barrels set, one in the 7.62x39mm and the other in the .264 LCB that way I'll have a short/long range combo that would be really hard to beat. Do you have any idea what CAI wants for one seeing that don't publish the price on their website? The Remington 799s' (no longer available through "R") that I've came across you would think you were buying one of Remington's 700 BDLs. Apparently Remington thinks their name is worth half the price. Anyway, CAI has always been fairly resonable on their pricing, hope that's still the case. bobnob May 26, 2012, 08:14 PM They retail in Australia - the land of being ripped off - for about six hundred bucks so I would think you would do better than that in the US. 303 hunter May 27, 2012, 11:27 AM They are $379 plus shipping. The metal on mine was beautifully blued. The wood was slightly rough with light oil finish. After some light sanding, and 10 coats of boiled linseed oil,I had a nice stock. The barrel and bolt were FULL of cosmoline. Took a lot of work to clean it. Found scope bases (warne) at Midway. There is very little clearance for bolt handle when scope is mounted. You have to use higher rings than normal. I used a Nikon 2-7x32, and medium rings. The bolt handle still hits the scope bell if I'm not careful. Considering the amount of work I had to do to get the rifle like it should have came from the factory, I would buy the CZ if I had it to do over. clance May 27, 2012, 12:07 PM Do any of you know whether or not the bolt shroud is the same as a normal Mauser 98 so that it can be replace with a 3 position safety? greyling22 May 27, 2012, 08:46 PM different shroud. much smaller. txgunsuscg May 27, 2012, 08:57 PM Clance, check out www.k-var.com under Rifles>Bolt Action. The M85 with iron sights in 7.62x39 is $499. dirtyjim May 27, 2012, 10:28 PM Do any of you know whether or not the bolt shroud is the same as a normal Mauser 98 so that it can be replace with a 3 position safety? 98 shrouds can be adapted to the mini mauser & gentry sells a 3pos safety for them. you will have to machine a step on the threads to match the mini's shroud then make a bushing for the inside of the shroud to fit the mini's smaller firing pin. compare the two and you should be able to see what needs to be done. my british style 223 project will get a standard military style shroud & safety
