Crazy or just bug bit?

Well I shot my first ever reloaded rounds Friday night and had a great time. However, I ran into an issue and could not sleep until I had it resolved. Well as time ticked away, I didn't end up going to bed until 0200 Saturday morning, since there was a lot of research and adjusting of dies.

Does anyone else do this? Am I just crazy or bit by the reloading bug? :)

Naw, you ain't really bit.
Just nibbled on a little.

You ain't been really bit until you find yourself load testing 22-250 ammo at 2:00 AM with a flashlight taped to the target stand.

After getting off work at 1:00 AM in the morning.

BTDT!

Been there several times. i sand bag a LED about 2' infront of the target.

The other day I put a LED flashlight on top of each sun screen to chrono a load. It worked well.

OP
Setting up you press, sizing, & priming are probably OK but don't charge cases in loo of bed.

What was the issue?

I was crimping to hard and making the case mouth to small causing it to slightly go into barrel, which made the case expand except for the mouth of the case, which made it appear belled. Was also expanding the mouth to much. Thankfully, all that is fixed now though after some guidance. :)

A few days ago, my gal said I was talking in my sleep. Grains, bullets and expletives were involved.

I haven't tested loads at 2:00am, but I was still up at 2:45am Saturday morning cleaning guns and counting brass from our trip to the range Friday evening. I don't like to leave a gun dirty over night, and I'm always wanting to know the final count of brass picked up. We shot 100 rnds 38spl, 40s&w, and 100 rnds of 45acp. I brought home 279 40s&w cases and 231 45acp cases. Then of course the 100 cases my wife shot in her 38spl.

Nibbled on is about right. Wait till you have 15 different powders on your bench, Several thousand primers of each size for all your loads and about 5-7 manuals.

Sounds like a typical Friday night to me....

Welcome to THR!

Sounds like you are enjoying your new hobby. I have reloaded into the wee hours of the morning before and it sometimes is the only free time I have to myself. I wouldn't start going to meetings yet, but reloading is very addictive. If you start to draw up plans for a sound-proof reloading room with ability to fire form cases, start buying powder by the 8 lb containers, primers by the 5000, bullets by the 4000, or start buying new firearms just so you have something different to reload, then I would start to worry.

When ever I have problems sleeping I head for my reloading room and do some case prep, sorting brass or any number of things to help relax. But I have had a few of those moments that something will bother me about a particular load that will lead me the reloading room, instead of sleeping.

About your over crimping of the case mouths. be cautious about that type of mistake. That is what is known as pinching the mouth in the throat and can cause pressures to spike unpredictably high. Your mouths should measure the same as the diameter after crimping as the brass at the base of the seated bullet.

@gamestalker- yeah after my research that's why I couldn't sleep. I just couldn't let something like that rest until I had corrected the issue. That night I made some dummy round after my dies were adjusted and everything measures the same now. :). I was just too worried that if I didn't fix it right then that I may have forgotten about it.

Ha, I dab a little Hoppes no. 9 behind each ear before we go out to lunch, also carry a few extra rounds in my pocket so I can pondel em:)
And have been at the bench at 3 in the morn on many occasions---sometimes I can't sleep either when a prob is on my mind.

Yep. I don't need a shrink to diagnose me with OCD when it comes to reloading and if you ask me it's not a bad thing to have.

@Hog- I would say OCD is a good thing to have in this hobby, as I am to OCD. :)
