I want to get a caliber conversion barrel to convert my 229 to a 9mm from a .40 for target practice. Firedragon is much less expensive than barsto....is there a considerable quality difference?

I have a BarSto .40 S&W barrel for my Sig P-226 (.357 Sig), with which I am very pleased; accordingly, I would recommend BarSto. Their quality is outstanding.

In addition, and by the way, I am not sure you can do a .40 S&W to 9x19 conversion with the barrel alone (magazines, extractor, and so forth).

Id second the post above. Barsto is a very good company. The change you are looking for wont be a simple barrel change. 40 to 357 Sig and back is that easy.......but thats it.

When possible, its usually the best idea to go with the factory barrel. The factory sig .40 and .357sig barrels will readily interchange. In fact, the barrel and the height of the front sight are the only differences in the guns when they leave the factory.

With a .40 to 9mm conversion, bar-sto is generally regarded as the best way to go, but you will likely need a lighter recoil spring and some new mags as well. I wouldn't trust a .40 to 9mm conversion for defensive purposes but its fine for the range.

I talked to the owner at fire dragon...the barsto guys seem to have discontinued the sig conversions? Any way...the guy was real nice on the phone and talked to me about problems he has heard from customers, which he says 1 out of 50 the feed ramp or edge of where the ramp meets the frame needs a little polishing..but nothing major. I got the firedragon...the Barsto is discontinued from what the brownells guys said>....don't know if this is true or not. I will give a range report...this barrel is only for range use anyway....NOT as a defensive barrel.
