Velodog!

Here's another from the box of old guns my brother gave me.
Its a Velodog revolver. It shoots a 6mm centerfire round. Double action only. It is not in nice condition but mechanically, it still works and would fire if I were to find its ammo and be foolish enough to hold it in my had and shoot it.
Interesting old gun. Posed with a .45 acp round for size comparison.

It's chambered in 5.75 Velo-Dog and until just a few years ago, Fiocchi still made ammo for it... you might still be able to find some at larger distributors.

Velodog ammo is still available, both the 5.75 and 6.36 stuff. I fail to see why it'd be foolish to shoot it, these weren't used heavily and fire a low-power cartridge. I wouldn't go to the effort, personally, but it's not inherently unsafe.

It looks like the Galand pattern of Velo Dog, made either by Galand in France or Lignoise in Belgium. Got any proof marks?

Jim;
Here are the markings I found on the Velodog.

Well, it's Belgian for sure. Looks like post-1903 which isn't saying much.

http:www.shotguns.se/html//belgium.html is one site that will give you some information on Belgium markings, there are other sites such as Little Guns but this one should suffice.

Many thanks to all that have helped me learn about this pistol.
A fine antique piece it is not, but as wall decoration without a lot of light
on it, it will suffice in my man cave along with a few others.
