Put a ":" between "ban" and "knowledge," and add in a comma after "knowledge".

"Two things socialists would love to ban: knowledge, and the ability to use it."

"Socialist" covers a political spectrum so diverse as to make the poster nonsensical.

It seems silly to nitpick over the use of "socialist" while the punctuation remains incorrect. Besides, everyone knows that "socialist" and "communist" are used interchangably on gun forums to refer to anyone with whom the poster disagrees. :)

Replace socialists with liberals, and put in the colon. Semicolon is used for something different than a list.

I like three things on my pizza: mushrooms, sausage, and green peppers.
My pizza looks bare; I should add mushrooms, sausage and green peppers.
I don't like plain pizza, so I think we should add mushrooms, sausage, and green peppers.

Replace socialists with liberals, .
That would make even less sense and annoy all of the liberal members of this forum. I am boggled at the way that people who live in a liberal democracy can somehow think that liberal is a pejorative.

Odd, I thought I lived in a representative democracy.

You live in a constitutional republic which is also a representative democracy.

The fact that we actually have a constitution makes it a Liberal Democracy.

Tommygunn

If you had told any of the founders we were a democracy, they would think you'd have insulted them.

Actually, if you'd like to get technical about it, we are a liberal democracy because we have civil liberties, accountability of government, peaceful resolution of conflict and a participatory political system based in the context of a limited government that puts emphasis on the individual. There are several liberal democracies without constitutions (UK, Israel, New Zealand). But hey, who's counting.

You are 100% correct, though our system hinges on our Constitution.

If you had told any of the founders we were a democracy, they would think you'd have insulted them.

Well, Madison would have probably keeled right over. When he woke up we could explain it to him. :D

Constitutional republic founded on liberal values, FedGov operating via representative democracy.

I pledge allegiance to the Flag
of the United States of America,
and to the Republic for which it stands:
one Nation under God, indivisible,
With Liberty and Justice for all.

I know it's not "technically" correct, but this was my first thought when I saw everyone arguing the semantics of what to call our nation. It's fairly irrelevant, at least in my opinion. Can we get back on topic? That shotgun is very nice, but I too am concerned about the length of the mag tube...

The topic was what? Proper definition of "the other" in a propaganda image and correct usage of the semicolon?

Lets all calm down- Armoredman is doing us all some good by being 2A proactive. We as his brothers have a responsibility to have his back through some small editing and by having an interpretative discussion. I know, I'm politically hot under the collar too.. but every little effort we make to stand up over petty bickering makes us better people and a stronger group- IMHO YMMV

Doug S

Yeah, the debate is getting silly, but I'll pipe in with a small point...

The word "Liberal" has two very distinct meanings. One, the dictionary definition, and 2) what it has come to represent in modern society. The two are not the same, and it's probably safe to say that the people who founded this country would be appalled by the belief system employed by so-called liberals today...also the idea that the country they founded was in any way similar to the liberal democracies of Europe. Typical liberal disinformation, and post-modern deconstruction at work.

All of that said, sorry to cloud up your thread AM, just wanted to clear a few things up. Keep on telling it like it really is, and don't let the libs confuse the situation.

Steel Horse Rider
April 21, 2012, 11:37 PM
That's okay, the word "democracy" isn't in there either. In fact, Ben Franklin is said to have warned against a democracy.

You're fooling yourself, we're living in a dictatorship, A self-perpetuating autocracy

---Dennis, there's some lovely filth down here

this thread is starting to sound like a Monty Python sketch

Anyway, if we really want to replace the term "socialists" I think "Authoritarians" or "tyrants" would be a better replacement

Stephen King may be anti-gun...I am not sure if that has been proven or not, but I just finished "The Stand" today and I loved his description of the "endless American struggle between law and freedom of the individual" maybe the most Libertarian quote I have seen in a book since Crichton's "State of Fear" and "The current near-hysterical preoccupation with safety is at best a waste of resources and a crimp on the human spirit, and at worst an invitation to totalitarianism" I think these quotes point nicely to the adage...Gun control is more about control than guns.

I made a PC/THR version.

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b13/armoredman/CZ%20posters/knowledge3andahalf.jpg

It's a LaZBoy, lever action recliner chair, old but still functional, and no, no safety. :) The dogs use it more than I do. Yes, there are coasters - that black container on the side table is a handmade container of hand painted Japanese coasters, made in Occupied Japan, brought home by a relative who was a Naval officer at the time, probably worth more than the shotgun. :D
The shotgun is a CZ 712 Utility semi auto with 5 round Nordic barrel extension, and no, I didn't know it was going to be that long! I ordered it that way, before I saw it, but I can tell you the mag tube doesn't get hit with anything but powder residue. If I get around to it I'll probably swap for the 2 round Nordic, (only people that make mag tube extensions for the CZ 712), to tuck it back under the muzzle, but as of right now, it is far enough away from the muzzle to not receive any damage. Wonder if I could hang a ring bayonet on it...
