Hornady is touting it as new...
It appears that the Savage Model 25 will be made in .17 Hornet. Looks interesting.

Here's a short write up on it.
The original Ackley 17 Hornet was introduced back in the 50s as a wildcat. Here it is again, very similar.

I see Midway has the Hornady 17 Hornet ammo, but I haven't seen any firearms availble for it.

I heard Ruger is tooling up to do one.

Ruger is definitely going to have it in the 77/22 Hornet rifle. Don't ask me how I know.

Without improvements to the 77/22 (And I have one in Hornet), I would go with the Savage. Sounds like a cool idea.

I hope they chamber it in their #1 also.
The list of semi-committed & committed bolt action rifle manufactures that I have heard are:
Savage
CZ
Anschütz
I have heard Ruger may also.
I am personally waiting on the CZ option.

Yup, if CZ finally announces production I'll be hard pressed not to get one.
Need another little bumble bee like a hole in the head, but I want one :D

I've got a model 25 and while it's a fine shooting rifle capable of very nice accuracy I wouldn't purchase one as a range gun or paper punching rifle due to the pain of rebarreling ( the barrel is pinned instead of threaded). With that being said they make fine hunting and varmint rifles for more moderate useage, but still the 17 Hornet shouldn't be too horrible of a barrel burner and the factory barrel might last quite some time I suppose it just depends on your round count.

I don't know if Savage could have possible picked an uglier rifle to introduce the .17 Hornet
Someone somewhere on a forum did a nice semi-custom build with a Ruger recently, but I agree about them needing to do some work with a factory chambering. I'm a Ruger Fan, but I quickly sold my 77/Hornet.
Would like to see the CZ chambered with a flush magazine and hopefully one of these years CZ will do something with the bolt handle. I know both can be modified, but that just ads extra cost.

I'm thinking the Browning A-bolt Micro may be a good candidate as well.

H&R will probably one of the first to hit the market with a Handi, all they'll need is the reamers.

I've seen ammo on the shelves of Dicks sporting goods already, if its just now starting to be made in production i have to ask why its taken so long?

I've seen the ammo in my lgs but can't find anyone who's seen a rifle yet. My lgs got an add from one of hos distributors showing a ruger 77/22 in .17 hornet, and the other day I saw that cz is coming out with one. If ruger gets them out in time (which I doubt) I might have to get one at tax time.

I see where the CZ 527 in 17 Hornet will be available in Jan. 2013, also Ruger is showing their 77/17 in 17 Hornet. I'd like to see H&R and Thompson/Center chamber their single shot rifles in 17 Hornet also.
