Anybody out there work for a firearms manufacturer or work in the industry who is happy, making a decent living and not seeking alternate, more lucrative employment? Not into retail sales at all. There seem to be few local gun stores anymore. If reality TV is for real, not interested in working at Gunsmoke or Red Jacket type places...

I'd like to hear from happy employees...

The problem with working in the firearm industry is that in order to stay competitive, cuts have to be made somewhere in order to keep costs down. I loved the job, but the pay was horrible, and benefits were nonexistent. From the day I was hired, I continued to look for work and I left as soon as I could find a job elsewhere. The turnover rate of employees was close to 100% per year.

Centaur 1,

Who did you work for?
What was your position within the company?
How long were you employed?

You gave a pretty open comment. :P

Most gun companies have the same kinds of positions you'll find in other industries: accounting, hr, marketing and the like.

If you want to do something specifically related to the manufacturing of guns, you'll probably have to look into being a machinist or getting a degree in a field related to mechanical engineering.

I have a friend and former co-worker who is working at FN in South Carolina.
He seems to be making it OK.

Guns, like any other retail item always need excellent marketing folks and sales folks. That seems to be where the majority of jobs for companies like Browning, etc. are.

Gun and trade shows, sales calls, taking care of your territory, etc. - if you have done this for another industry, then moving into that would be easy

Just like any other industry, the real truth is...THERE ARE NO JOBS!

As someone in the industry, I agree most with Justin, P5 Guy, and oneounceload, and least with Centaur 1, DesertFox, and Buck Nekkid.

I have floated in and out of "The Industry" for close to thirty years now.
The big five manufacturers are always hiring positions for Skilled Workers and there is a shortage of qualified people.
The money is pretty darned good too.
