Ruger SR1911

Name finally made it to the top of the list. A nice 1911, specially for the price, with good options. Grips pretty but no grip. Flat diamonds and urethane after the checkering (pressed) makes them feel slick. Added VZ Operators. Trigger averaged 6 Lbs 3.0 Ounces for 10 pulls. A little heavy, but crisp and zero over-travel. Slide to frame fit better than I expected for a mass-produced 1911.

At a gun show this past weekend, saw the SR1911, first one I'd seen other than my own. Had a price of 899 and sold within a half hour of show opening. That's a hundred bucks over retail. Crazy.
BTW OP, I like those additions!

That looks great! I'm still waiting on mine, but I've been planning on those exact grips. That mag well really adds a nice touch too.

My son works for Ruger and just got one. It is really nice and sleek. I personally am not an auto fan but it sure is sweet. My Hubby and Son are trying to get me comfortable with the autos. How did Quiggly put it? "I said I never had much use for one. Never said I didn't know how to use it." Speaking of Quiggly, loved that sharps! Way cool!

Ruger is making a great comeback in semi-autos. The LCP, SR9, SR9c SR40 SR40c, and now the SR1911 -- Way to go Ruger!

Mine was too. I decided to get proactive and ran down my own SR1911 and had it sent to my FFL.

Based on first hand experience, overpriced, overhyped, junk.

What's with the sights? The front sight seems tall on them to me.
The LGS had one Monday that I played with - nothing special, but would make a good entry level 1911, IMO. Trigger did feel a bit heavy.

When I get one I'm going to put black grips on it to finish the black/silver contrast. But those VZ Operators really look sharp on that gun

Would you care to elaborate on your remark, or is it just an offhand comment?
I have an SR1911 among several other high quality 1911's and the SR1911 is comparable to any of them.

I made a bunch of phone calls too. Was getting nowhere. The list I'm on isn't even local, its a place that was known to get the elusive SR1911 every so often. I did place an order before Ruger quit taking orders though, so hopefully I'll be seeing one soon.

Not at all. As I've stated before concerning the SR, I have played range buddy to now two coworkers and friends who own one. One fellas runs as it should, and completely blew me away considering the very first SR I have had the privilege of firing wouldn't run for all the tea in china. FTEs, FTFs, and a very tight slide IMO. I may have been harsh by calling them junk, but I prefer others to the SR and for the price, used Phillipines 1911 with better reliability. But, everyone is apt to get a lemon. I applaud the OP on his purchase, and glad you've had good luck texagun. That is my limited experience, however unsatisfactory I find it, and I wish SR owners better luck.

The one I played with had 2 problems in 200 rounds. Both of which seemed to be magazine related with the 8 round mag. The gun itself was great to shoot and more accurate than I am...

Does this mean you've shot a total of 4 SR1911's or 2? If two, you are saying one worked and one didn't, correct? If 4, what were the other 2 like?
It really is OK to have an opinion based on your own experience. Does it really serve a purpose to cut down a product someone is pleased with, and then wish them luck?

Have had two in our rentals at work, no troubles from either. For the money seems a pretty good gun, favorable reviews from customers, cheaper then comparable Kimber's and they seem about on par with them, a step up for sure from your Rock Island's, Citadel's etc... Anyone that is familar with 1911's knows in the first couple hundred rounds you can have some issues while it breaks in, our two rentals seemed fine, but thats not to say other Ruger 1911's haven't had that issue. Overall the only thing I have found to complain about with the Ruger is availability.

Nice looking 1911. I wish Ruger would do a little better job machining the area of the frame around the grip safety.

Well I,m happy with mine and to know it doesnt have a foreign name on it somewhere is nice. I havea bunch of ammo thru mine and the only trouble that I.ve had is it keeps going bang with noting to complain about. I guess before someone asks what a bunch is its around the 5000 mark so far.

Why on earth wouldn't I wish someone luck? That wouldn't be very adult, as opposed to me having no experience at all with the SR and just making a random accusation of the pistol in question would be ludicrous and misleading, not to mention very un-High Road. The count is two separate pistols, one with a problematic extractor methinks, on top of a poorly machined slide or tolerances that exceed minimums, and the other is flawless. I'm not going to sugar coat anything for the sake of sounding "nicer", but I cut down nothing. 50% of the SRs I've experienced were junk, plain and simple. Take it for what it is.

Hey OP,
NICE MODS, I think the gun is beautiful. The color contrast is very cool.
I also think it's awesome that there is another 100% american made 1911. Well, at least the frame and slide are, I don't know if they import the busings and springs or whatever, but the parts made here in America the better.
NICE GUN!!!

Well, I started looking for one of these about a year ago and never found one. I called a bunch of local LGSs and basically got laughed at. Got my name on a list at KTP with a special order number for about 2 months. Checked online sites almost nightly for a good month or 2. Didn't check on line for a few days and said what the heck and just did a search... And I found one! There was one left in stock at a reasonable price and I just bought it! I was a little skeptical that the stock info was correct, but I got an email confirmation from someone at the shop that said they did in fact have one in stock, until I bought it! Gonna decide which FFL to have it shipped to and start doing paperwork tomorrow. Gotta wait 7 days here, so by Saturday of next week I should have it!

Bleh... This is a gun that I have been dreaming about for years, and I have yet to even see one yet! I know it's unmoderaterly for me to point out that that I am a little bit of a Ruger Fanboy, but I am, and it's frustrating that these are so scarce.
With that being said, I can wait. I scratched my 1911 itch with a Sig Scorpion, and I am finding enough delight in that to keep me happy while I wait.

You've been around two SR1911's and that was enough to form an opinion of junk plain and simple.
This is one of the FEW guns that people actually bother to post positive comments on, as opposed to the norm of only posting when a person has a problem with a pistol.
Yes, it's nice that you wished them luck, but it read more like 'They're junk, but good luck with yours!'
I have seen some photos of some really piss poor quality in maybe 3 or 4 frames, and if I were to form my opinion bassed off those 3 or 4 frames, I'd probably have the same opinion as you do (save for the Phllipines comment). However, I noted the overwhelming positive comments all over the net with many more photos or a better product. After aquiring mine I looked for those same piss poor quality issue of the 3 or 4 mentioned above, I guess I got lucky, or perhaps my example is the norm and those others, along with the one you claimed FTF FTE'd all over the place were like about anything else man made and sometimes crap does slip through the cracks.

I did look at one in my LGS a month or so ago. It looked good. I didn't notice the rough machining others have mentioned. I didn't shoot it, just looked, worked the slide, etc. I didn't load it, and didn't notice any extractor problem (and didn't really look for either problem, just wanted to see and touch one). I will buy one when the price gets down to where it should be. My guy didn't even have it on his shelf, he told me he wouldn't insult his local customers by selling it for $200 above where he figures the price will settle. He's been selling them on gunbroker until supply catches up with demand.
Like I said, I will buy one at that time, but I can certainly wait until then.

So he's got them, but won't sell them locally at a reasonable price but sells them on Gun Broker so he doesn't have to look the customer in the eye when taking the high price.....

meanmrmustard - Did you suggest sending the poor quality pistol back to Ruger. I know if I were your friend I would contact them & see if they wouldn't make it right. Ruger doesn't have a written warranty but they do have a good reputation for taking care of their customers.

MEANMRMUSTARD, You say you are having problems with the SR take it back to where you got it or contact Ruger in Prescott, AZ. Ruger is a great company and I would be willing to bet if there is a problem they would do what is necessary to have a happy customer. Machining mistakes happen and stuff gets processed that shouldn't. Part of life. Yes you should not have to jump through the hoops but life is too short to (Wha Wha) over something that can be taken care of. Approach is everything and again I can't believe Ruger wouldn't stand by it's product, Especially the SR1911 since it's brand new. Thanks for listening. Arizona Rose

I feel I've enough to base an OPINION. Key word, opinion, as in I shot them along with two other very experienced "gun folk" and I will choose not to buy one.
As for sending back to Ruger, yes I suggested. Far as I know, he's getting the run around over the phone.
For all others: I've stated what I know of one pistol with failures, my opinion, and that I won't buy one. Other than that, don't take Internet drivel too seriously. Shoot it for yourself, and make that decision. Of two I've handled, one worked, one didn't. As ccracer has said, crap sometimes slips through. That's where I wish any and all interested luck with finding, shooting, and hopefully loving this gun. They're pretty for sure. I don't mean to offend owners, I just want others to be aware that they aren't ALL perfect. Thanks guys.

You're welcome. I apologize if I came off harsh regarding this pistol. Weigh your options, read REPUTABLE reviews, and make sure to base your purchase off of what you want, not what I opinion is, as they will differ. I hope you have fun if you buy it, if not, look at a Springer, S&W E series, or a Sig. :)

A local sports shop -- Mahoney's -- advertised a price of $699, limited quantities. I needed a new computer more, though.
