gbelleh February 16, 2004, 09:58 PM Now that I have my camera back, I took some new artsy pictures tonight. More will follow.

Tierhog February 16, 2004, 10:35 PM Very nice.
P95Carry February 16, 2004, 10:58 PM Nice cylinder pic ... that one stands out.
Not sure quite re ''artsy'' !:p
But have been re shooting some of my stuff ... although slightly hampered by having only 72 ppi pixel density .. here's the .223 T/C Contender ...

BowStreetRunner February 17, 2004, 12:51 PM all of those are nice pics guys
gbelleh February 17, 2004, 11:31 PM Here are a couple more:

P95Carry February 18, 2004, 03:09 AM Ahhh .... that ever elusive ''barrel shot'' .... something I have been meaning to explore further too. Challenging eh?! Good work.
Skunkabilly February 18, 2004, 11:15 AM gbelleh, cool pics, you have good tastes.
clubsoda22 February 18, 2004, 11:21 AM barrel shot isn't too hard. I think if you leave the chamber open and manually insert a hollowpoint it would look cooler. Don't close the slide or you may be eligable for a darwin award.
ChickenHawk February 18, 2004, 01:21 PM Shouldn't all the cartridges in the cylinder shot be rotated so the stamped-text all faces the same way? :neener:
Just kidding. Nice photos.
Cheers,
ChickenHawk
gbelleh February 18, 2004, 05:20 PM The barrel shot is of a S&W 629 3". I chose it because I could get more light into the breech than with an auto. Also, it has a relatively short, large caliber barrel.
The picture didn't turn out quite how I wanted, but I kind of like the blurry effect of the rifling (makes it more artsy) :)

Mal H February 18, 2004, 06:53 PM Very nice camera work, gbellah and P95. I really like the lighting on the first set.
gbellah - Looks like you have a little copper to get out of the 629. (See what happens when you give us too much detail?) :)
Hero February 18, 2004, 07:05 PM gbelleh, those pics are great!
The barrel one is my background right now!

45R February 20, 2004, 09:40 AM nice barrel shot :)
P95Carry February 20, 2004, 12:13 PM Did post this as a thread .. plus one or two slightly altered versions! http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?threadid=66014 but seeing as we have barrels going in this thread too .. forgive me if I add this here ..... seemed to work out quite well for what I intended.

BHPshooter February 20, 2004, 12:31 PM Those are very nice... but I particularly enjoyed your drawings. Drawing on the 'puter is tough stuff. ;)

ChickenHawk February 20, 2004, 01:30 PM Outstanding Photo, Chris!

gbelleh February 20, 2004, 03:13 PM P95Carry,
Your barrel shot is way better than mine, but I'm experimenting with some different set ups and will post if something turns out. The Bond pics in the other thread are great! :D
Thefumegator,
You do really great artwork. Your use of light and shadow is excellent! My computer drawings are fun, but not serious. Keep up the great work, I hope to see another soon! :D
12 Volt Man February 20, 2004, 04:15 PM Nice pics guys. Keep up the good work.
extremefishin00 February 20, 2004, 04:43 PM What kind of cameras are you guys using? Gorgeous pics. I especially love the .45 compact pic and the Mauser and Walther pic.
Chris
P95Carry February 20, 2004, 04:56 PM Chris ... not relevant to the pics you referred to but I am using a Minolta DiMAGE A1, 8 Mpix.
Sadly, like a great many cameras now .. it's pix density is only 72 ... yet my older Kodak is 150 ... apparently it's now the ''industry standard'' ... even at ''prosumer'' level it seems.

Mal H February 20, 2004, 05:51 PM gbelleh - The .380's and knives - Fantastic! Great curve matching. Almost erotic. (I said "almost", guys, don't read anything into that!)
Chris - The Super Redhawk - Fantastic!
rhedley - The S&W - Fantastic! (The Grim Reaper seems a little too happy in his work, though. :) )
I feel so inadequate.
P95Carry February 20, 2004, 05:53 PM NICE detail .... very nice!
gbelleh February 20, 2004, 06:31 PM Mal H,
Glad you enjoyed the pic! ;)
Chris,
I'm using a plain old Olympus D-230 (2 megapixel). Nothing too special. The thing that really makes good pictures is good lighting (plus some adjusting in Photoshop). I hope to get a better lighting set up soon.
rhedley,
Nice reaper gun!
P95Carry February 20, 2004, 06:42 PM Well, 2 Mpix can be well adequate for this sorta stuff .... but seemed however hard I looked, I had to go up to the 8 Mpix (which I rarely need as such) just to get all the manual control and extra useful bits.
Don't forget the ''light tent'' approach .. diffuses light usefully ... and then virtually all you need is main and fill ..... useful tho if you can set up custom white balance ... then you can use tungsten source. Auto WB often seems less than reliable.
Of course, finally ... ''tweaks'' in the image app of your choice. :)
