Why do I want a handgun that does not make sense?

Please help.
I've been looking at a Bond Arms in .45lc for awhile. There is something about this handgun I love. I like the weight and its a .45. The stainless is beautiful ,IMO. The vintage look and feel are awesome. I look at other firearms, but keep coming back to it.
Ok now let's be logical.
I have heard the trigger is way heavy and are not the most pleasant to shoot. Don't need a carry firearm, I already have 4 of those.
Why do I want a firearm that I know I don't have a logical reason to get?

because you suffer from the same curse as most of us on THR, and misery loves company. When you get the Bond, tell us how you like it.

Hand gun collection is an Art! As you understand hand guns, you enjoy looking at, spending time and doing thing with your collection; you see the strength, beauty as well as it's vulnerability. On the other hand, it's also an addiction!

Ahh Yes..... (N+1) Syndrome...... How many is enough (N+1), where N = the number you currently have.
Have fun with your new Bond Arms. You're going to buy it, you know you are.

The only "illogical" firearm is one that doesn't shoot. While I'm not a huge fan of Derringers, 2 shots of .45 colt could stop a fight, and the availability of a pocket rocket is a nice compliment to your CCW piece. Buy it! ;)

You want a stainless derringer in 45LC?
Your momma probably read you Wild West dime novels and Jules Verne as bedtime stories. You are obviously turning into a steam punk. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_punk
It's incurable. That's why I have a Victorian era Webley and Mauser Broomhandle. Makes no logic sense at all. Just accept it.

I have a Snake Slayer IV and yes, it's a beautiful gun for all the reasons you said. However, mine is not very pleasant to shoot with the 410 shells. 45's are ok. I think you are making a good choice getting one in 45LC only, as it will have more rifling, and be more accurate. Be warned however that they are very challenging to shoot and hard to hit a target with . It's a belly gun to be sure.
That being said, I just contemplated selling mine due to it's inpractical nature. When it came down to it, I just couldn't do it. I like having it in my collection as a novelty. If you are a handgun collector, it's nice to have for that reason alone. Don't expect to get a lot of "use" out of it other than that. Now if I found a COP 4 barrel derringer, I'd trade it towards that in a heart beat.
I may get a 45 only or 357 bbl for mine.

I bought a Cobra 9mm Derringer for the same reasons you want the 45 Colt. No logical reason what so ever it was just that having a back-up that was the same caliber as my carry made sense. The Cobra is that but makes no sense on so many other levels............
I guess I'm no help for your dilemma, maybe we could start a new therapy group or we just just keep enjoying our dysfunction:evil:

You realize this is somewhat akin to going to an AA meeting and asking why you want a drink. Except I doubt anyone here will try to discourage you from getting another gun.

You don't need any more reason that "you want it" to get the firearm. Most of us buy firearms from time to time as quick spur of the moment decisions when we have no earthly need for that particular gun. When I was 21, guns had to fulfill a particular need. That is not the case any more.
Think of it like a music CD.. you just want to try it out. Hope you enjoy the music!

My brother-in-law was recently diagnosed with COPD at age 55. He began smoking at age 15, and according to my rough calculations, has spent over $175,000.00 on cigarettes, not to mention the associated health costs (he "can't afford" health insurance, and now owes the hospital $22,000.00).
My gun habit has cost but a mere fraction of that, and hasn't affected my lung capacity. And I can always sell my guns.
So buy your Bond Arms .45LC, TanklessPro, and enjoy yourself!

Why do I want a firearm that I know I don't have a logical reason to get?
But you most certainly DO have a logical reason. The logical reason is that you want it.
Who cares what anyone else thinks about that? They aren't paying for it.
And no, it isn't necessary that it be shot to be 'logical'. That's akin to saying a coin collection must be spent to be logical.
There are many reasons why people buy firearms. And not every firearm they buy must be for the same purpose.
Sometimes the reason for buying a new gun is just; "Ooooh shiny".
Like the advert on TV says; "It's your money".

You think two rounds of 45 acp is illogical?
I came this close >< to buying a Thompson pistol. Think a Thompson submachine gun with no stock, and you'll have an idea what I'm talking about. Thirty round stick magazine.
I didn't...but I still WANT it. :D

No it's more like walking into a bar and asking why you want a drink, at AA they would help you decide not to have a Drink.

My wife asks me every time she comes home and there is an unfamiliar gun in the LR. "Why did you buy ANOTHER pistol?" We all know the answer to that question. I bought it because I saw it and, for some unknown reason I thought I needed it. I didn't need it but I sure wanted it.
My normal response is to tell her that I will quit buying guns when she quits buying shoes. I'm not gonna say that will shut her up but at least it does get her to look at it from my perspective. Two nights ago there were ELEVEN pairs of shoes in our BR floor because she was trying to decide which ones to wear with freakin' JEANS. I seldom have more than 5-7 firearms out at any given time.
We all have weaknesses. Enjoy yours!

It's called impulsivity, and a desire for immediate self-gratification. I know because I suffer from the same ailment. In all seriousness, everytime I've followed through with a purchase like the one you're thinking about, I've regretted it. But, as they say, to each his own.

Yea, I find that wanting and thinking about getting it is usually more fun than actually owning them. Or in this case, more useful... either way go for it, it's not like you can't sell it or trade it down the road next time you get the "curse" :)

Quite true, I guess, but I've been keeping what I've bought lately, finding reasons to like them. :D I bought this Ruger SR22 a month or so ago. It does nothing my Rossi 511 revolver doesn't do except fit in a pocket. I find the little Rossi a little more accurate and a bit easier to shoot as it has a little heft to it. BUT, it won't fit in a pocket. :D The SR22 is very reliable and quite accurate, reckon I just need to practice more with it. That's an excuse to burn more ammo. :D

To partially answer your question, I think it would be a lot easier for all of us if more ranges offered a wide variety of rental guns, and posted their offerings on their websites. That way one could eliminate some rather bad choices from future purchases. A case in pont is the Ruger LC9, for me. I couldn't wait to try one, and was seriously considering buying one. UNTIL I rented one and discovered that my trigger finger is too thick for the trigger guard (at sear release point). That was a deal-breaker for me!

At least you're going to shoot the darn thing.
Imagine the plight of lonliness and unfullfilment experienced by the guns in many collections that are guilty of no worse a crime than to have never been shot during their early life so their new master continues this denial of purpose.
Won't someone think about these poor virgins?

I got the Bond Century 2000 (410 / 45 colt) for pocket carry on desert ATV rides.
3" #9 shot will handle those Great Basin rattlers.
Any derringer is a special purpose / niche gun. For personal defense against humans, I think I'm just as well off with 000 buck as with 45 colt. More projectles at derringer range of 15 feet aint not bad.
If you think the trigger pull is too much, you're not pulling it right. The trigger actually rotates back and downward because of where it has to pivot. Pull on the bottom end of the trigger, and a little down. I prefer to take the trigger guard off too.

By the way, I took my Dodge pickup with the 489" roller-cammed, stroked, tunnel-rammed big block for a drive today.
In the day of $4.XX fuel, it makes much less sense than the gun.
Go for it!
