Loaded some Precision Bullets 200gn LSWC to 1.225 .45 ACP to see if it helps the feeding issue in my Kimber Pro CDP 2. Is that Ok seeing that its not the usual 1.25.OAL

JLDickmon April 29, 2012, 11:11 PM how hot of a load are you running? Simply setting the bullet back, even a few thousandths, could cause excessive pressures.. coalman April 30, 2012, 12:30 AM I run around 1.240", and have run down to 1.230". Still, LSWC will jump the extractor sometimes in my Kimber Compact (extracting round case rim bumps/catches LSWC edge of feeding round). No issues with LRN. No worries with pressure in .45acp loading down to the driving band as you dial things in as long as you are running moderate and below loads. Good luck. Caliber April 30, 2012, 04:23 PM I loaded a couple with 5.8 of Universal and will be using HP-38 from now on with 5.5gn of HP-38. I hope it doesnt cause that severe of overpressure. I'm just trying to get them to feed consistently in my Kimber. Ball ammo has no issue. Canuck-IL April 30, 2012, 04:52 PM Typical SWCs should be loaded so that a thumbnail or so height of the band is showing above the case ... can't go by OAL as there are many, many different nose designs. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e346/Canuck-IL/45SWC_shapes.jpg /Bryan oldreloader April 30, 2012, 08:05 PM I shoot MBC 200 gr LSWC bullets loaded to 1.225 OAL. That puts them about to what Canuck described. I use 5 gr Bullseye and 5.2 gr HP 38 with no problems. ranger335v April 30, 2012, 08:58 PM The Canuck has the correct answer, make it work first. Common sense applies with book OAL same as with book powder charges - they vary. Anxieties over changing a book OAL are over reactions, just find an OAL that feeds and chambers, then adjust the charge down a tad if it's a max load, otherwise forget it. The ONLY situation when seating slightly lower matters is on absolutely max loads in those few cartridges that are both small and high intensity to start with; the .45 ACP is neither. (And, just for information, seating deeper in a rifle load actually lowers the peak pressure with a given powder charge.) Walkalong April 30, 2012, 09:36 PM I loaded them at 1.260 to 1.265 OAL, and they worked well in my 1911's, including a Kimber Ultra CDP II. That is not a guarantee it will work with your guns. Even my CZ 97, which supposedly does not like SWC's according to some posters, fed them at 98/99%
