I don't understand the European distinctions for name recognition, specifically in differentiating a CZ Brno from a Brno. I saw an ad for a Brno .22 WMR semi-auto rifle - I can't remember the model, but it was nothing like the new CZ 512.
This rifle was discontinued, years ago, but then I saw old flyer for a CZ Brno listed for about half the price.
The flyer was in some of the packing paper I got when I purchased a Brno scope mount and rings for my CZ ZBK 110 in .22 Hornet.
The scope mount was hard to find. The dealer said it would work fine on CZ's version of the ZBK, but he dealt in actual Brnos.
He contended that the CZ "knock-offs" of Brno designs were 'OK', but certainly not Brno quality.
I questioned him about the CZ Brno .22mag semi-auto, that was in his packing material. He said the actual Brno model was a great gun, VERY expensive, out of production and hard to find. But, despite the flyer, the CZ version had never gone into production: they don't exist.
His English was hard to follow, and I've lost his address and business name. If anybody can clear up the distinction between CZ and Brno, please share the info.
CZ-USA seems to bear no affiliation to its earlier European roots, or their customer service dept. doesn't have any info on products that aren't in the U.S. catalogue.
(NOTE: if you like .22 WMR, you'll end up with a CZ 512 and you'll love it)

CZ-UB and Brno (Zbrojovka Brno) were two separate companies, but Brno went bankrupt and CZ-UB bought rights to use the name + tooling and hired several employees.
Fact, that during communism CZ sometimes used name Brno doesnt hepl either.
It looked like this (http://eshop.zbrojovkaholice.cz/img/p/38-94-thickbox.jpg), didnt it?

Yep!
That's the one!
Looking at it now, the CZ 512 does have the same lines. But the lower receiver is polymer - maybe a graphite laminate or a polycarbonate resin: whatever it is, the directions warn against cleaning the gun with any of the standard solvents.
Thanks for the info!
